  1. asking for Stan Heath to be fired from USF BB is like asking for Joe Maddon to be fired from the Rays.

you gotta know what you have in your program to really appreciate the job they are doing. we should be so lucky to be able to compete the way we are, all the way down here in basketball-poor Florida, playing second fiddle to UF/FSU/UMiami in regards to bball tradition.

jim leavitt sure plateau'd with the program, but football around here has way more potential and way more expectations (because of the potential) than bball. it was time for him and skip to go, but it wont be time for stan heath to go for a while

lelo prado, on the other hand-- that's more of a legitimate discussion..

  2. Girls, girls, girls... A more appropriate questions why did the previous staff offer this kids scholarship??

Indeed. I know we shouldn't be enamored with the stars system but if kids are choosing 1-aa FCS programs over us, someone has to seriously inquire about the talent evaluation-- hence my original question, are people really upset in a FCS recruit de-committing from us? frees up a scholarship for CWT to go get some 1-A talent

  3. are people really upset that someone of LEHIGH FOOTBALL quality just decommitted from us?

Way to sound like an @$$hole. Wish the kid the best and move on.

Sorry, didn't realize you were a Lehigh fan. No disrespect to Patriot League football fans out there

You also didn't realize that there was only ONE post that showed remorse at the decommit so your post was pretty much needless to begin with.

I think you, Hem, and Joe Maddon are the only patriot league alums know the bay area. No disrespect to you guys

You're a f*cking moron. Nothing I said even hinted to me liking or knowing where the kid even came from/is going to. It was more like the kid is 18 years old, wasn't getting the best of deals from us, found somewhere that would take him and use him right away, and would be a better fit for him. Could YOU play at Lehigh? Probably not, now shut the f*ck up.

^^ Is this guy serious right now? if so, relax man.. it's just Lehigh Mountain Hawk football. I just read that they had their 3rd straight 10-win season this year.. CONGRATS on going 10-1.

  5. Leavitt: good recruiter, defense was aggressive (which got us in trouble and teams like Rutgers and UConn used it against us, running screens against uiur blitzes).

Holtz: poor recruiter, defense was bend but don't break (which got exposed as soft... opposite of Leavitt defense)

Hoping Coach T defense is a balance of the two. One thing I'm looking forward to is prostyle offense. Want the stout defense again

  6. I would prefer to have 12 members who are full members. Everyone should play football and basketball, and most should be playing baseball/softball and soccer. This patchwork stuff is exactly what hurt the Big East in the long run. Have 12 members on equal footing committed to the same thing.

    Exactly.

Have a West-Coast and an East Coast all-sports conference playing each other exclusively with occasional cross-over games under one banner if you need to, but the new conference needs to be all-sports!

Add an NFL-like playoff system within the conference for football and you got yourself a smashing hit.

Yeah, now that you mention it, that's pretty much it. I really do believe this is the best way to go.

Call me a pessimist, but I do not see ANY scenario that any team from the NBE gets to the NCG. I would rather do our own thing and have our own championship.

Well, under the new BCS rules, if they finish in the Top 4 in the nation, they will get a spot in the BCS 4-team playoffs.

That's not entirely accurate. It's not how you finish in some poll, it's whether a committee picks you as one of the 4 playoff teams ... At least, that's the way I understood it when it first came out.

Ok well that makes it even more Subjective and more of a reason why we cant rely on this BCS committee to vote one of our members in.

we gotta do what we gotta do to create our own excitement- which is create our own playoff system

but let's not hold our breath, we gotta create excitement within our conference and hope for the best.

NCAA FBS 1-A football is the only sport in the entire NCAA that does not have a playoff system. as the little fish in the pond, now is our time to be creative and to create the excitement that BCS conferences lack-- A PLAYOFF SYSTEM. here's what i think would be cool, and could trump what the powerconferences have:

    1. merge big east + mountain west + c-usa into one coast-to-coast league called "Big America" conference

    - have this conference be up to 20 members, 4 divisions, 5 teams per division (divided by geography - north, south, east, west

    - each team plays a team within their division at least once a year (4 games) + 1 game against a team in the other 3 divisions (3 games) = 7 "big america" games.. 4 intradivisional, 3 games from other divisions (e.g.- usf in south division plays 4 south div games, then 1 game vs north team, 1 game vs east team, 1 game vs west team = 7 games)

    - give each team the remaining schedule to schedule whoever they want (bcs teams, 1-aa warmups, etc)

    - 4 division winners move on to the "big america" playoffs.. semi-finals played on home turfs of top 2 teams

    - "big america" championship held at neutral site

let's say a team like boise st runs the table through big america play a goes undefeated throughout our playoffs-- good chance they can get #4 overall ranking and can go to the BCS playoffs.. if not, it makes for good coast-to-coast programming at the very least

  9. ok screw it. who cares about the quality at this point, we gotta get strength in numbers. this league is already diluted...

    - Get rid of the "Big East" name-- we are now a coast-to-coast conference

    - Get to 20 teams ASAP- west coast, south, north, i dont care

    - Create 4 divisions of 5 teams each, based on geography

    - Division winners (4) move onto 4-team conference playoff

    - Winner hopefully gets a BCS bid

we gotta create a buzz WITHIN our conference and with a playoff within our conference, hopefully it will generate national attention.

Interesting idea, something along the lines of:

    South

    USF

    UCF

    ECU

    Memphis

    Tulane

    North

    UConn

    Cincy

    Temple

    Navy

    UMass (or Army)

    Central

    SMU

    Houston

    BYU

    Air Force

Co State (or Tulsa or UTSA)

    West

    Boise St

    SDSU

    Fresno St

    UNLV (or Nevada)

    New Mexico

TV Markets: Tampa, Orlando, New Orleans, DFW, Houston, Boston, Philly, Denver (Co Springs/Fort Collins), SLC/Provo, Vegas, Albuquerque, Memphis, Cincy & San Diego with semi-national draws in Navy, BYU and Boise.

    Exactly.

Can't worry about spreading the wealth now.. right now, there is NO WEALTH to be spread. it's all about building a brand/product that will sell in the future.

I like this because even if we get raided in the future, the infrastructure of the conference (4 divisions, Final Four playoff) will remain intact. Just promote from the lower conferences (sun belt, wac, mac) to replace the stolen team.

It's a "best of the rest"/NFL-style system that would be in place from coast-to-coast. Let the BCS divisions incest over each other with their bowl tie-ins-- our playoff system and regular season will mimick that of the NFL and it will generate nationwide interest

  10. I think adding Fresno State and UNLV would force either Air Force's or BYU's hand. But most likely the Air Force as they would have to realize that the Mountain West was raided of all of it's top teams and they would have to then join up for football. We would then be looking at the following:

    East

    USF

    UCF

    UConn

    Cincy

    Temple

    Navy

    ECU

    Memphis

    West

    Houston

    SMU

    Boise State

    San Diego State

    Fresno State

    UNLV

    Air Force (or BYU)

    Tulane

It would clearly place this new conference as the 6th best conference and would provide some good TV markets.

Make it 4 divisions of 4 teams each, with a Final Four playoff system at the end and you got yourself something

  11. ok screw it. who cares about the quality at this point, we gotta get strength in numbers. this league is already diluted...

  12. it looks like a mini-Rose Bowl-- very flat and the farthest seats are FAR from the field, not HIGH above the field in the sun

if you notice, the tunnels for the fans lead to the OUTSIDE of the stadium. which means, there is no concessions area for the stadium.. so, unlike most stadiums, where you want to get food/drink/bathroom, it will lead you to the outside of the stadium, where the food and drink and bathrooms will be. that being said, i still think we would be more than happy with this stadium on campus.

Man I don't care about stuff like that. I would so like this type of stadium. It would be awesome to have gamedays take place on campus. Traditions, get the student orgs involved and out and about, build some pride from the alumni about the new spruced up campus.

On a humorous note, the business building is a bunker and it has a concessions area:

    BSN-EXT.jpg

Ya I like this stadium too

  13. I do have a feeling that CWT is bringing in talent much like CJL did.. which was much better than skips recruiting. So I think if anything we go back to the days of Leavitt.

However, under Leavitt we were pretty average in the Big East and would always start out hot then crumble to a 4-3 or 3-4 conference record. I just hope coach T can not only bring in talent but coach them up to a conference title.

  14. Just something to remember. Just because one of these websites say he has an offer from x and y doesn't mean that's the case. Each case is different... Again, he looks like a great player- not trying to be a buzz kill.

    Well your killing mine boss.

Kidding aside, a dominant o line is something I don't recall seeing here...ever?

It's probably because we never had a power running scheme since maybe Andre hall

  15. I would rather keep the agreement at Ray Jay. $1 million per year for an NFL stadium with capacity to 66K is a lot better than financing a $350+ million stadium. Though I do need to add that the current interest rates (around 1-2 percent) make this an ideal time to move forward with an OCS if that's the way they want to go. I wouldn't worry much about conference realignment talk with our long-term strategic positioning. We'll have a home in a quality conference if we provide a quality product.

You're missing the whole point of this thread. THe OP is stating that a Yale Bowl can be done for under $20 million dollars and it would be more than serviceable for us. I would have to agree.

  16. The autoberth is a moot point, because any conference they go to would already have an autoberth. It only comes into play if they decide to form their own conference.

I read somewhere the berth doesn't come into play at all. Because the 7 have played 5 years together, they can form their own conference and have an automatic berth.

They could raid the A10 and get Xavier, UDayton, St Joe's and form a pretty strong catholic basketball league on their own. Also, St Louis U is also catholic and can be added. If im not mistaken, there are quite a few catholic schools already in the A10
