  1. Again...how often does that happen? In the real world.

Actually... It happens quite a bit.

So which coaches stepped down in the past year with a buyout?

Tressel resigned at Ohio State and likely received a settlement.

Let me clarify. What coach not at the middle of a scandal resigned. IE resigned over their record.

So it doesn't happen all the time. Those stories are from years ago. Since then 1000000 coaches have been fired.

Monte Kiffin this week. Obv not a head coach but a resignation nonetheless.

  2. The 3 mile stretch of Fletcher Ave from Nebraska to 50th just east of the USF campus is probably the most dangerous corridor in Hillsborough county for pedestrians and bike riders. Over 40,000 vehicles/day use Fletcher. The road needs improvements and needs to be widened all the way to I-75; improvements to the road are at a stall now because there isn't enough money ($120 million+?) available to fix the mess.

Totally agree but it doesn't help that 9/10 pedestrians I see crossing that stretch of Fletcher are jaywalking.

  3. Those giant, free online classes offered by schools like MIT, Yale and Stanford are called Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC). Some schools are considering offering credit for these courses. Interesting read here:

To my knowledge, USF doesn't offer free online courses but I've seen some free audio lectures in iTunes.

  4. If they keep Holtz for next year then they "save" $500k, but I think you will see decreasing fan support which comes at a cost much greater than the $500k you save. This could also be cost neutral if you fire him, pay the $500k per year, and hire your new coach at $1.5M per year or less.

Money isn't the issue here as much as people make it out to be. If Holtz is retained it will be because Woolard still believes in him, or is too stubborn to admit he made a mistake.

You bring up a great point about Woolard believing in him, or being too stubborn. In either case his job becomes more in jeopardy if Holtz is retained.

    +1
