  1. In this age of immediate gratification, internet blogs being given similar credence to legitimate news outlets, and the Twitterfication of society (read: emasculation), I say to hell with anyone who clogs our feeds with their whining, plugs up our favorite internet board (TBP) with their naysaying, and announces their blind, poorly considered, inane support for the idea that USF did anything wrong in its hiring process of Steve Masiello.

Does it bother me that USF isn’t hiring Masiello? No. He lied about having a degree. Good for USF for putting its foot down and standing up for values. UCF can hire him, he’d make for a great pair with George O’Leary. I didn’t spend a decade in higher education (BS/MD/MBA) and go a half a million dollars in debt just to have my future job given to someone who lies about having a degree.

You expect someone you're looking to hire isn’t a liar (or stupid enough to be) and you expect your search firm to do their job. USF did everything right here with the hiring process. Perhaps I can agree that the media relations mismanagement (or lack thereof) was our biggest shortcoming, but then again, that is why Harlan has been hired. Quite frankly, the Twitterverse mentality of "I NEED NEWS NOW AND I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW AND I'LL ACCEPT ANYTHING SOMEONE TWEETS AS TRUTH" is responsible for this non-hire to even be considered a surprise among fans. Was the search firm too slow? It's hard to blame them…. UK is only open business hours. Have you ever sat on the phone with a university's administrative offices? Nothing happens as quickly as you can Tweet 100 unfounded misconceptions about it. You can update your Facebook profile 100 times before you can secure a copy of your degree audit. The under-24-hour lapse between signing a contract and a background check discovery is actually a pretty fast turnaround, even considering today's corporate atmosphere.

Some internet posts by members of our OWN FAN BASE have been quite unnecessarily negative towards USF, and this sort of hotheaded knee-jerk reaction has made its way around the social media universe. It has influenced opinions much more than traditional news media, akin to shooting ourselves in the foot. Reasonable reporting from news media outlets has generally not endorsed an aghast reaction to USF's handling of the hire. If anything, any negativity is generally (and appropriately) directed towards the fact that Masiello lied on his resume. Have some respect - we did it better than Notre Dame.

The entire bruhaha is quite laughable. For anyone who has seen the movie Idiocracy, I reiterate my hope that it gets remade with a larger budget someday soon because its writers were spot-on. If you haven't seen it, you should watch it. If you don't understand it, you're probably exactly the kind of hide-behind-your-computer annoyance who contributes to the progression to its ultimate prediction. USF fans should employ a little intelligence, a little patience, a little class, and lay off your university for standing up for what should matter.

  2. It wasn't just the call on us that took back the TD that was the problam. It was the call on Houston for the exact same thing that was retracted, followed by an unsportsmanlike that gave them a first down. Maybe Houston wins this game either way, but the refs cannot be that inconsistent in their rulings. They had a direct impact on the outcome of this game.

  3. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't redshirted players not allowed to travel with the team? I seem to remember hearing that was a rule after the Ben Flick tragedy. If that's the case, does the fact that White is going up with the team mean that the redshirt is coming off (regardless of whether he plays)?

    come on

did you guys really really think bj was an nfl qb?

He looked like one of the best in the preseason...

against 3rd string in an exhibition game

i could get specific but the long and short of it is simple---bj was never an nfl qb   NEVER

He was and he still is, smazza.  But seriously, why are you so adamant about condemning the talents of a kid who represents the school you claim to support?  Everyone else here is excited to see BJ succeed, and all you want to do is come in here and piss all over it.  You were in here talking this crap all through the preseason, and when he made the 49ers roster, you went silent.  Then he gets waived and you pop back up, but since it was announced the Seahawks picked him up, you've again stopped commenting.
