  1. Someone tell me why switching this team from a spread offense to power running team caused us to have the worst record ever. QB has to be biggest issue.

People tend to forget the last 3 games of spread offense without BJ last year.

I've really gotten tired of listening to this argument. So I decided to go back and see how bad the offense was after BJ got hurt last year. Guess what? It was better than this season.

Two of the opponents we also played this year. I'll use Rutgers as a comparable for Pitt, since they were both the last game of a miserable season.

    2012 vs Miami - 358 total yards / 3 Turnovers

    2013 vs Miami - 306 total yards / 3 Turnovers

    2012 vs Cincy - 306 total yards / 2 Turnovers

    2013 vs Cincy - 241 total yards / 1 Turnover

    2012 vs Pitt - 117 total yards / 4 turnovers

    2013 vs Rutgers - 151 total yards / 2 Turnovers

So Holtz had an offense built around BJ Daniels that had to change near the end of the season and a terrible defense to work with. Taggart had the entire offseason to build an offense around what he had to work with, and a Top 25 defense.

But most importantly the Pitt game really doesn't count since everyone in the locker room knew Holtz was a goner.

And the 2012 offense was still better. In fact, Floyd had a reasonably good completion percentage in his three game last year. So I think we can stop with that silly comparison.

Key quote is that holtz had BJ Daniels to build around and Taggart has....whatever this is

  2. He looks like a freshman out there. There is a reason to be excited, but that is for the future. He has POTENTIAL to be a very solid QB but hes not very good right now. He shows glimpses but he isn't very smooth fundamently yet and I think that will come when the game slows down for him.

  3. He is not the world beater Daniels and Grothe were just yet.

Daniels first game he went into Doak and won, convincingly. White may have achieved the same except for some bad calls, but Daniels had the best start imaginable.

FSU wasnt incredibly strong that year and even though it was a big in state win, so was beating Miami in Miami and Evald did that.
True true, but I think Daniel's performance was more impressive in his first start, and certainly, the team as a whole, because of the defense.

Empty reliant is not like full Doak, filling Floyd or bench or eveld's shoes is a lot easier than filling Grothe's.

Doak was far from full that game.

  4. Oh I have no doubt Teddy will crap all over our defense unless we get pressure on him. He probably still will even with pressure. He is a good college QB, but I don't expect anything from him in the NFL.

Obviously time will tell, but your opinion is so in the minority it could be considered "fringe" at this point.

deters, What is it that you don't think will translate? I mean you could be right, but outside of maybe your gut feeling I really think he has shown all the tools to be successful at the next level.

Outside of Luck hes the best prospect in the last 5 years. Haters gunna hate but Teddy is as real as it gets

  5. Anyone saying Boyd is better/will be better than Bortles is absolutely kidding themselves

Out of curiosity, who's your top 5?
As far as who I think will translate well at the next level-

    1. Teddy

    2. Winston

    3. Hogan

    4. Mettenberger

    5. Bortles

With Hackenberger, manziel and Mariota being very close.

I don't think Teddy is that good at the next level TBH. I would have no reservations taking Winston or Hackenberg with a Top 5 pick.

    1. Winston

    2. Hackenberg

    3. Mariota

    4. Hogan

    5. Manziel/Bortles/ Teddy

Teddy is the absolute real deal. He is going to have a field day on us Saturday unless we really get pressure on him.

  6. Mariota is so overrated. He fits the scheme perfect, but you put him at UCF and they aren't the same team. Same reason he won't be successful on Sundays. UCF has zero talent and he makes NFL throw after NFL throw. Even if he isn't "top 5", hes no doubt top 10. And no to McCarron or Murray. Its easy to throw to NFL WRs every weekend

Won't McCarron and Murray be doing that at the next level anyway? Not sure how you're using that as an argument.

So let's see, you asked for 5 QBs better, you were given 7, even if you take away the three you did using the dubious arguments you made, I can throw in Tajh Boyd in there and you still have 5. I'm sure you'll come up additional subjectively-supported reasons to "debunk" those too, though.

Yeah but the every corner in the NFL is much better and they won't be able to just put it up and let their guys out play the secondary on a consistent basis. The exact reason most successful NFL QBs dont come from traditional powerhouse programs

    lol, most successful NFL QBs?

Colin Kaepernick, Tony Romo, Ben Roethlisberger and Andy Dalton are the only starting QBs who came from non-P5 conferences.

In all fairness, Mr Bortles did say they didn't come from traditional powerhouse programs rather than didnt come from P-5 conferences .... don't know if that changes things much but there is a definite difference.

That was my point. And a lot of NFL scouts have the same opinion. I have watched a lot of film on bortles, Murray, teddy, mettenberger, mccarron and there is no way Murray or mccarron go before bortles if he decides to come out

  10. It's hilarious that we could potentially miss a bowl just as easily as we could make a BCS bowl

Its hilarious that people actually believe this after what happened at the beginning of this season. 0% chance of a BCS bowl appearance

Oh I wasn't aware of the fact that you have Biff's sports almanac from the future...Perhaps you should look into what would happen if USF wins the AAC. They go to a BCS bowl. Since the games are played on the field and not on paper we have more than a 0% chance.

Ok and Im going to be the next president. Anyone that has watched more than a commercial break during a football game knows we have zero chance at winning this conference. Bortles and Bridgewater are top 5 QBs in the nation minimum and both are much better than Morris who picked us apart, and a hell of a lot better than that McNeese state guy

  11. I think with bench and white learning the system more, as well as hopefully drastic improvements at OL, we are set at QB for the next few years

not sure bench is good enough passer. I hope white is but I don't want Taggart to feel that way. Hopefully he is still looking for good QBs.

I would take the sample size with a grain of salt. Taggart has continuously said Bench doesnt have a full grasp of the offense, WRs have had the dropsies and the OL is awful. With all of that being said, he has shown passion, and leadership as well as a flash here and there of play making abilities. I think with this whole year under his belt, as well as more time in the system in the offseason, the winner of white/bench for next season should be plenty good enough to run the offense
