Never understood people who rely upon comedians for their political thoughts. Stewart and Colbert are funny, but if you think they are deep thinkers because they're witty and cute, well... You're probably still in college. Incidentally, "infotainers" like O'Reilly and Hannity are only a smidgen better.

Pick up the Wall Street Journal or New York Times. Read a columnist. There's actually some political analysis going on there.

EDIT: Don't mean to suggest you can't or shouldn't enjoy all of these folks. I do. But I cringe when I see polls that say young people get their news from comedians...

The New York Times is the most slanted news outlet there is.

i agree, but on the flip side there is WSJ

  2.

    No, markets do.

Rutgers football has sucked for decades, as has their bball. The B1G believed they were getting the NYC market by taking Rutgers.

    They were sadly mistaken.

there is no college market in ny

but uconn has less of a tv market for sure

no one willever be able to explain to me that taking rutgers made any sense for the big 10

the reason they did it is extra money they'll get from TV partners.

Looks like i just explained it.

Solid emotional presence. This guy's for REAL.

The players are going to crawl through broken glass for this coach.

Many people always say that people don't want to coach at USF or play for USF, well Antigua proved that to be wrong. It's very rare to see that kind of REAL EMOTION and PASSION in a coach at his introduction. This is a man that really wanted this job from the beginning and this is a man that will do all he can to be successful at USF. This man has been through so much and his journey is something that will keep him grounded and keep people gravitating to his circle. People like this don't fail in life and this man is not going to fail at USF. Can't wait to take this ride with him.

OMGGGG Vega being positive!!! And about a USF coach!!!

usfvictor: The NBA is obviously complicit, but again, you know the recruiting pitch at Kentucky is a simple one: "Come here for a year or two and we'll make you an NBA lottery pick." You know when USF officially announces the hire, Antigua's "recruiting prowess" is going to be at the top of the news release. How does that translate for him at USF? That was the selling point for hiring Willie Taggart, but he was recruiting at Stanford and Western Kentucky where there were challenges. It's not the same atmosphere - and we have absolutely no idea if he can make a decision as a floor coach. I'd probably look pretty good too if I had a roster full of McDonald's All-Americans. How does he recruit and coach players who don't have that kind of talent level, because that's what he'll have at USF? We'll find out and maybe he'll be great, but there's not a thing on his resume to me that relates to the situation he's walking into at USF. Bottom line is the same to me - if you were going to give up on Stan Heath, you'd better bring in someone with a track record that says he has a good chance of getting it done. I don't see anything that says that with Antigua. All I see is a guy who's followed Calipari around.

Agreed. We would have done much better hiring a small school D-1 coach that has a history of developing talent.

1st bolded point: exactly so why "stress" about it. All i hope is he has success, but i don;t go around making predictions he'll fail

2nd point: Thats not all he's done. Just happened to be what he's done the last 4-5 years.

On a overall point: You can't blame Cal, that's every coaches line at major programs.

  5.

I love how many, "experts" we have on here.  The guy played at Pittsburgh and has coached at Pittsburgh, Memphis, and Kentucky!  Three of the best basketball programs out there.

Tony Barbee, Steve Roccaforte, Chuck Martin, Bruiser Flint...all failed coaches from the Calipari tree.

Kellogg is the only one that's done OK.

i get that, but you can't just predict his future outcomes based on others results.

  6. Completely unproven coaching ability and if they're going to tout his recruiting . . . give me a break . . . apples and oranges. Kids went to Memphis and now Kentucky because Calipari promised them one year and off to the NBA. We can't sell the same thing, so I'm not giving Antigua any credit for the recruiting at those stops. He may prove me completely wrong (and I sure hope he does) but I completely disagree with this hire. Calipari is everything that's wrong with collegiate sports and this guy has hitched his wagon there. Sitting in the second chair to that dirtbag doesn't mean anything to me. I'll go on record right now and say that I hate this choice. All the so-called "big name" interest we were told there was in this job and end up with a career coat-tail rider of the guy that has made a mockery of college basketball by creating a D-League NBA feeder team in the NCAA's midst.

the NBA did that, not Cal

  7. Sounds like he is being run out of town.

Good thing we're around to give him a half a million raise on his way out.

See that's just sad and it continues with Harlan. He reaches for coaches for and away when their are similar coaches closer. This time he offers a notorious poor floor coach/good recruiter at in Dave Rice at UNLV when you can find that a lot closer to home. To those that are actually supporting this hire, would you like for Anthony Grant or Andy Kennedy to be the head coach? If your answer is "No" then how can you be fine with Rice as Head Coach? Both Grant and Kennedy are known to be bad floor coaches/good recruiters too. Also like those two coaches, Rice will be on the Hot Seat next season if he stays at UNLV and probably is looking for another place to camp out for a while.

Dave Rice might be a fine human being but if he is worth offering a contract too? If so then Grant or Kennedy were just as or more deserving. Either one of them should stand a better chance at USF then UNLV's Dave Rice

I take it we shall see. We couldve hired Smart and he couldve bombed. U dont know how he'll do here and you are entitled to ur opinion but come on man its the the end of the world. At least not yet. Lets talk in 2 years

    Joey Johnston â€@JJohnstonTBO

The father of LaTech coach Mike White is Duke AD Kevin White. Don't underrate that factor in son's coaching direction. Wake Forest?

If Wake gets White then it will be official that USF will indeed make the worse coach hiring off the year. When the grades go out, we'll get the lowest one unless a shocker comes out of nowhere. Right now I have little confidence in Harlan to pull such a thing.

Geez, Vega, stop being a freaking drama queen ...

    right....

  9. After hearing about the hire yesterday I put a note on the calendar to call John Lewis to renew my tickets.  Guess I can wait another day or so.

lol too funny, when i went to bed last night i thought the same thing. I was estatic that USF had actually stepped up and got what others "universally" called a great coach and even though i wouldn't be able attend most of the games, i figured USF stepping it up, i'll buy a pair of season tickets.

Welp so much for my plan(and don't start telling me i should buy them anyway)

Unless we pull out Shaka Smart out of our (you know what) I'll be highly disappointed. I know we don't know what the backround issue was, but unless its that Masiello likes hookers and cocaine a little too much or has a fetish for young boys I'm not seeing something that USF shouldn't have simply looked past.

Now I'm thinking BullDaly was right about boosters being all high and mighty wanting jesus christ to coach the team.
