  1. If you are looking it as a national viewership ad (as Big 12 is ) versus a subscriber (local area cable viewers SEC/B1G) then the 2 biggest draws out there for Big12 is Boise St ( who has become a national draw) and BYU (always had a national draw).  Now of course this means only football which is where the money comes from.

It gets back to how much Fox is willing to pay and ultimately how big of a factor the Conference Championship is going to play into the Final Four.  And right now Boise > USF, and BYU > UCF in that perception.

I really would like to see USF in the Big 12 and possibly with Cincy or UCF but unless uneven permanent shares I just dont see it.

I can buy your argument about BYU but Boise can fall out of prominance fairly quickly and then what? (3 people in Boise watching them play TCU).  If you want to take over a new area in a football crazy state, with about 5 x times the TV's of the entire state of Idaho then USF is the school of choice.

I think the best case scenario is for a big 12 team to go undefeated and get left out of the National Championship due to their lack of a conference championship game

I agree that it would be the best case scenario. However, I couldn't see an undefeated Big 12 team being left out of the 4 team playoff.

But here's the deal.  What do you think is going to happen if the an undefeated SEC team gets beat in championship game, while an undefeated Big 12 team doesn't have to play a championship game?  Is the SEC going to be happy about that?  The other four big conferences have a CCG.  They are putting their best team at extra risk every year.  They aren't going to let the Big 12 not take a similar risk but reap the same rewards.

    This!!!

  3. After July, when the ACC schools sign their GOR's.

So, given that the 'it's just a matter of time', what's your overall thinking on WHEN this could happen. Yeah, I know it COULD happen next week, but based on what you've seen thus far, the fact that the playoff format is locked until 2026 (thirteen years hence), when do you think - in your gut - they 'open the books'?

    Done deal

There are 2 rock-solid, definitive statements I can make. There will be no hedging, no flip-flopping, no back-tracking. There is nothing that can fall through and no last minute shocking developments that will change things. Per my source, these 2 realignment moves have been fully negotiated and they are DONE. They have not only been blessed by the networks, they are the products of the networks, particularly Fox & CBS.

#1 When the 2014 college football season kicks off, UNC will be a member of the SEC.

#2 When the 2014 college football season kicks off, Miami will be a member of the Big 12.

Regarding #1.......I know you want to know who will join with UNC to be team #16 in the SEC. Per my source, this has not been decided.

Regarding #2.......The Big 12's preferred scenario is to only add 2 teams, FSU and Miami, and to stop at 12. Miami is a done deal. FSU is not. I was not told why. I was not told percentages of FSU joining the Big 12. I was not told if FSU is trying to join another conference or if FSU wants to stay in the ACC. I was told that if FSU refuses to join the Big 12, the next most lucrative option proposed by the networks will be carried out. The Big 12 will go to 14 with a 3-team Florida block of Miami, UCF, USF and a 4th team from the current ACC. I was not told the name of the 4th team.

Why are these things happening? This isn't about what fans, ADs or board members want. I was told this is what the networks want.

  5. As much as we want into the B12, it would seem that the B12 members (or at least those on messeage boards) want nothing to do with us.  Still think we land somewhere decent (ACC), but it sure would be nice to read something glowing about our school from another message board instead of the consensus feeling that if we're added to any decent conference then it will be the death of the conference.
