    Only if offense improves.

This a million times over.  Let's not over react too much just because the defense channeled 2007 out there.  The reincarnation of Selvie was awesome to watch with 3 sacks, but we only scored 3 points- and that was because of a muffed punt.

Aside from one missed pass in the end zone, we never threatened to score a TD.  Felt very much like when we were shutout in 2016 at home; when Taggart knew what he wanted to do, we were super aggressive, used trick plays, but we just couldn't hit pay dirt (and needed more pieces the following year).  The offense has yet to prove it can beat a FBS team, and it needs to do that 5 times this season to go bowling.  Maybe it can....but we need better play calling and execution to get there.

We'd look a lot better with FBS leading Weaver and his friend Horn.  We are weak in WR room.  And Byrum, no matter how much people want to defend him, has accuracy issues.

When the talent is lean you have to gamble. I agree with you on some of those 4th down plays, but I understand the reasons.

💯 agree about the WRs...it's a fair point.  Honestly more upset though that the Florida game had more creative runs to spread the D out.  Our big plays are only when Brown runs, we should not have him run up the middle on 4th and 2.

Feels like Gilbert calling plays .

    Meh, early lead means nothing.

Remember FSU came in here and torched us after we scored first even keeping it tied 14-14 early.

I think Alabama is going to just run the ball on us with the severe mismatch in their o-line to our d-line.

Fully expecting that too...as much of a bummer it is.

New QB jitters on their part that will likely go away.  We just saw their speed in the kickoff

Well if we stop standing over people and doing throat slashes early in the game on an 11 game losing streak that 100 could go down 15.

The only reassuring thing for me, is that in the post game Coach Go basically attributed the penalties to inexperience.  So many guys playing right now never suited up before.  Said one of em "never traveled with the team before".  Apparently even a lot of the transfers they got didn't have many games under their belt.

So if you keep it in perspective that is an incredibly young and inexperienced group, the emotions & penalties are understandable.

This is coming from someone who didn't particularly enjoy the game at the time (my PTSD from watching games over the years had me expecting FAMU to tie us in the 4th qtr).  But I will say there is at least hope these games could be a spring board and as opposed to our ceiling.

Before I declare that 4 paragraphs of utterly complete, but well written, gibberish, has there been some hard evidence out there that this ACC thing became a head to head between us and SMU?

Lol I'll go ahead and declare it as gibberish.  "[x] happened, I have no proof, and the burden rests with all of you to prove me wrong.  Since no one has disproven me, that proves me right.".  That'd get you laughed outta any debate club.

But I get it.  An AD has been grossly incompetent when it comes to evaluating head coaches, so some people want to just transfer that failure to every discussion.

However if you're gonna do that, make a reasonable argument like "Whether or not he made the same pitch to the ACC is irrelevant because the end result is we failed to move up".  At least then you're upset about something that objectively happened.  As opposed to "He didn't even try to get us into the ACC, see how dumb he is", where the failure is PURE UNPROVEN conjecture.

I conceded Miami right after the hard FSU no, the swing vote in this instance then becomes UNC that claimed to be fine with expansion but wanting something closer and well that’s the one thing we got.

    Look the main points are

    A) it's likely we faced more no votes than SMU

    B) (Most important) We don't *know* MK failed to make that pitch

If you have anything showing we didn’t laugh at the foolishness of people giving to much for things that seem to be working and actually offered them more I would love to see it.

That's not how it works.  You can't crucify someone for failing to make a decision (sell out for Prime/ACC) without evidence, and then turn around and say the burden is on everyone else to disprove your own unsubstantiated claim.

I fully agree, knowing what we know now, that we should have gone full steam for those two.  But us internet folk have 0 proof one way or the other so I'm saying it's pointless to get upset about that.

For skirting nil and diverting money it’s not my job and I’ve not invested much time on it

Right but you're still saying we aren't doing something we could, when you don't really know that we could.

That's a lot of pent up anger over things that you don't know MK failed to do.  (And there's plenty of known things to be upset over.)

Did we make an offer? FSU gave SMU the same vote you fear they would have given us

It's reasonable to assume Miami does not want 3 Florida schools in the ACC at once, and would have voted 'no'.

Now here's the thing.  I absolutely agree the stadium is risky and an opportunity cost.  In the past, you've alluded to the possibility that we maybe couldn't

-make the same SMU/ACC deal because of it

-or couldn't pay the right coaches or players

But that's alllll speculation.  For all we bullspen members know, Michael Kelly did make the same concessions as SMU and Miami said no.

For all we know we offered Prime just as much (or more) than Colorado he said no.  Hell maybe even Herman turned us down and picked FAU.

Here's some things we do know:

    1) The BOG would not sign off on a loan for 200 million so USF could launder money through NIL.  So any discussion of 'we should have spent the money to buy good players' is irrelevant unless you have a specific, legal path for USF to do it.  In which case please email Michal Kelly immediately.

    2) FAU has more facilities than us and a better football (and basketball record) over us the past few years.  They did that in CUSA and are now moving up.

Hmmm, a Florida school with better facilities, being elevated from CUSA to USF's conference...where have I seen this play out before?  Oh right UCF.

So if you let FAU attract better recruits the next 5 years, who do you think the ACC will be calling up when FSU and Clemson finally do leave?

    not with brown at qb

so many bad decisions and the inability to hit the open man

Obviously not a great game with the turnovers but...

    a) offensive line not as strong as last year (when Brown coincidentally looked better)

    b) he showed real toughness taking the hits and still going back out there

    c) he's barely a couple games into his career

    d) still lead team in rushing and helped pile up total yardage overall

I wouldn't be too hard on him

Tommy Lee Jones I Dont Care GIF

I said I don't care but since my eyes have already been soiled with cusa standings I'll tell you what I see.

I see the worst team in that league with 2 conference wins which is more than we've had since 2019.  So their worst team, now in our conference, pulled off a feat we couldn't do yet everyone is acting like it's an auto win this year against em.

So AGAIN...how do we get 6 wins when lesser conference teams

    a) beat us

    b) have better win loss records

So your theory is that we took the best cusa teams and WKU wasn't one of them?

God I can't wait til we win so we don't have to argue pedantically like this.  Lemme guess, you're gonna try and tell me they are really good and just didn't get an invite? Truth is I don't care because they are in CUSA and we as a AAC team should be beating them.

    That's it.  Pure and simple.

No P5 elevations are coming from the MAC, Sun Belt, or FCS.... they're coming from the AAC.  There's been a BLATANTLY obvious pecking order that you want to forget, and I'm saying USF has not only failed in conference but failed against the lesser conferences (including today...hence my rant)

I don't give a flying flip if WKU had some good games last year or the year before, they are still in the CUSA and someone would move them to the AAC if they were good enough and could draw more money for the conference.

But they didn't so we should have beaten them.  Instead they put a 40 burger on us, and people want to say we could still win 6 games, and I don't see how.

  11. 28 minutes ago, olafberserker said:

What does that have to do with anything.   They're still as good or better than most of our current conference

    Should have been obvious.

The AAC literally just expanded with cusa teams, and here's one that didn't make the cut but we we still couldn't beat em.

How can anyone think we are on pace to win 5/6 games in conference when we can't beat a team that hasn't even been "called up" to our conference?

Hell, we seemingly can't beat any FBS teams, yet we're gonna suddenly gonna get 6 wins?  Everyone keeps telling me how bad all these other new conference teams suck, yet here we are getting 40 points thrown on us in a season opener again.

  12. 12 minutes ago, olafberserker said:

Again, a much better team than most of what we will face in conference.  I agree that the horses may be lacking somewhat, but I still think 6 wins is very attainable this year and that's a nice jump

I reaaaaaaaalllly wish I could get on the bandwagon with people thinking we can get 6 wins.

    This was a CUSA team.

If we can't beat opponents from supposedly lower conferences, and we've haven't had more than 4 wins since like 2018, *how* does anyone remotely believe 6 wins is on the table in a season we not only play Bama, but start off by losing to WKU?
