Agree with this. Maybe he just went through a few hectic years and wants to take on less responsibility, spend time with his family, and reassess. Nothing wrong with that.

He’s saying all the right things and is surrounding himself with the right people. Excited to see what he can get done on the field.

So the recruiting part was said more in the context of "you don't have to take a plane or go far to find talent". He also mentioned he held a Zoom call and had invited all of the HS coaches in FL and that he got to virtually introduce himself and speak with them and answer questions/take feedback from them. I've seen on Twitter quite a few HS coaches mentioning how happy they are already about that.

Agreed, I don't remember either of his predecessors mentioning how they watched film on us. They just came in and tried to square peg round hole us.

Listening to ESPNU radio on XM, specifically the “Off Campus” show. They had CAG on at about 4pm and based on what he said it looks like we had an offer out to him before the Tenn/Vandy game. He said his agent texted him after the game “you ready?” and he added that by the end of that week he had decided to accept the USF job. 

He talked about how easy it is to recruit here with HS talent and added that the transfer portal has made this job better than it’s ever been because all these kids want to come closer to home. 

He harped on the commitment we’ve recently made in Athletics and how he can put his stamp on the program. Part of the reason for taking this job was because he got to see the funding, architectural plans and blueprints of the stadium and liked what he saw. He noted that Ray Jay is a good stadium but it’s just not realistic to keep using it. 

He watched film on us and liked what he saw. Couldn’t figure out why we weren’t winning with all the talent, but when he got here and did some extra homework he realized what the issue was and already has a plan to tackle that. Sounded very confident in being able to turn this around quickly. 

Talked about a bunch of other stuff, including his prior coaching stops, but those were the highlights related to USF.

The Horn news stinks, but when you don't get such a dynamic player the ball enough, moving on is likely. Maybe the new coach will be able to convince him to stay.

As far as the defensive guys are concerned. We won't be missing them. I can count on 2 hands the amount of times I watched Evans get blown by this year. 

FOX13 doesn’t even show up to USF pressers so believing anything Kevin O’Donnell says, which he heard from “multiple college connections”, is asinine. Also, you now have Cincy people treating that story as true and they’re running with “Deion to Cincy”.

I wouldn't... it's well documented that JMU was a Nike school and that a big hang-up was that he was endorsed personally by UA. His UA deal is worth $300k a year and he isn't going to give that up. As I previously noted, USF would likely have to switch to UA as JMU did. How much that split costs USF and is USF willing to fork over the cash to make that split is legit.

This is also true. I have a buddy that works high up in sales at a UA competitor and he confirmed UA was bleeding from over extending themselves with their contracts. That they were going to try to rework their current deals and focus their efforts elsewhere.

I doubt it. I refreshed my memory with UA and our transition to Adidas. The folks over at Daily Stampede laid it all out pretty clearly when we switched. Apparently we had been with UA for 10 years and while UA had the right of first refusal, they didn't even counter Adidas's offer to us (which was pretty **** low). This shows they didn't value our brand and with the state of our revenue sports, I bet they value it even less now.

One thing I think that may be a hiccup for getting Deion on campus is Under Armour vs. Adidas. He's an UA guy and part of his deal at Jackson St. was getting them as a UA school. I personally believe this is a deal breaker for him. USF's deal with Adidas is through 2026 and I'm sure buying out of that deal would be pretty costly for us. Is that something we could afford and would we concede on that???

Well I mean that's a given. You have freedom with coaches, but you can't really overhaul a roster and/or bring in kids from your prior school without having open spots on the roster. There's only so many spots and scholarships.

^ This. He went on Twitter and basically said Deion to USF would be stupid for Deion because why would he want to coach one of the worst college football programs. Fans called him out and he doubled down saying fans are just mad at him for him giving an honest assessment of the program. It was also pointed out to him that there are a ton of positive things going on with the University/Athletics/FB and he never apologized so he kept getting roasted. Not sure why Jay and Zac had to step in, nobody had an issue with them (other than Zac constantly being wrong about the FB coaching search lol).

Not sure why we're all sitting here letting this new account tell us things... if we really want to get to the bottom of this we need an insider from West Virginia.

Purely speaking out of what I've read in articles and interviews, not from sources like some claim to have. But I'm not sure the $$$ is a hang-up. He's got money from his career as an athlete and he's sponsored by UA and Aflac. From what I've read, he mainly cares about getting his assistants paid. So based on that a lower salary with a large assistant pool would seem like a need that we could meet.

The below quote from the article posted a few pages back leads me to believe this is a troll job. He gave this quote a few hours ago during a presser. Why would he claim his sole focus is to win and be dominant on Saturday and then a few hours later be announced as a HC elsewhere???

west virginia is 68-56 since leaving big east. that's an average of 7-6 every year.

I enjoyed this so I had some fun with numbers at our expense:

USF was 56-45 in the Big East (avg. of 7-5 every year).

USF is 50-68 in the AAC (avg. of 5-7 every year). 

Sometimes playing in a lesser conference is worse! If we get a league promotion we're practically guaranteed to be better on avg. by 2 games a year! Go Bulls?

As far as I'm concerned, Hill can go. The only reason I ever know he's on the field is because I go back to watch the previous play to find out who was out of position and got blown by. To say he's one of the worst DB's we've had is an understatement. 

I doubt he gets the full time gig. Larry Scott went 4-2 as interim at Miami and didn't get the job. ADs want splash hires to get the fan base excited again and wash their mouths of the bad taste from the prior regime. Whether the new coach wants to keep any staff members is on him.

There's a lot of great insight on this thread and it's nice to see. I agree with a lot of you and your thoughts. For me one of the main, if not the main, issue(s) we've had is Athletics as a whole being a mess for many years, even the CJL years. I said this on another thread, but what CJL had that his successors did not have (other than Holtz) were lax recruiting standards. Both of those coaches were able to get into the homes of borderline academic qualifiers and get them on campus. When our APR dropped near the threshold under Holtz, academic standards were put in place to ensure we improved that score. I'm not sure if many of you remember, but it was often under Genshaft that the university would tout its yearly APR score on social media while our teams were struggling. Heck we even had Woulard giving himself arbitrary bonuses. I know there's more, but the point is Athletics was a mess.

Insert VPMK. VPMK is not an idiot, he's far from it. He was brought on to unify Athletics, catch up to the other Universities (conference and nationwide) that we had lagged behind, and put us back in line for realignment. I saw the post above me say they believe Athletics is not on the same page as them, well that's great and all, but Athletics is on the same page as Athletics for the first time in god knows how long. The extensions that were given to all head coaches by VPMK were a sign of good faith that "hey we're on the same page now as a department AND as a University, we believe in you all and we're going to try to give you the tools you need to succeed". In short, he gave every coach a fair shake and of course COVID came along and shook those plans up a bit. Regardless, here we are. I'll also point out that Blake Barnett recently hinted on social media that football wasn't given full support/resources by the powers that be when he was here and that's disappointing to hear. I'd be willing to bet we don't hear that from current athletes though. 

I guess what I'm trying to say is, it's going to suck, there are and will be headaches and we're going to sit here and throw our hands in the air trying to fire everyone. But for as long as I can remember, we've never had Athletics and the University on the same page. Will that translate into wins?... maybe not for all coaches, but every coach will be given a fair shot, and if they don't work out, we move on. However, it WILL benefit Athletics as a whole in the long run.

I believe you're on the right track. For example, it came out last night that Scott Frost's extension at Nebraska after his bad start was that if he went at least 6-6 and made a bowl game, he would get an automatic 1 year extension and have his full salary restored.

The extension has optics for stability written all over it. I doubt Scott received any additional money on his extension. Maybe he got his full pay restored after taking the salary haircut during COVID though.
