Notre Dame's coach left for LSU
He's also a completely different personality.
I am not delusional, I don't think CAG will turn down a 300% raise to go and coach at a premier program, but I do think his personality is more in line with CJL than anyone we have had. From that, I mean that he seems to want to build a program. When he talks about process more than result, it gives a peek inside his thinking. I could see him staying for a while if he finds success. Who knows what his motivation is, but I'll use CWT as an example... When he left, it was apparent that UF, FSU, and Miami were struggling. He had Q coming back and almost a guarantee of another amazing season here. BUT, CWT is concerned with himself only and jumped at the money to go to Oregon. He ended up lucking into the FSU job anyway, but why Oregon? I don't think he had any ties there or any emotional reason to go, it was all about $$$. Flip to CAG and I think he will eventually leave if the right job comes along, but, I think he would wait for the right job, not just the next job. So, maybe he would like to coach at UF, I think he would make it a target and not take an Oklahoma State job necessarily if offered.
All that said, USF has to treat him right. None of us know what goes on behind the scenes. If he feels like VPMK, or the Pres, or the boosters, etc aren't giving him their full support, he may start to think hard about staying in a bad situation.

What a throw under pressure.

Goach is fired up, I like it.

I'd like to see Brown not just consistently put in obvious passing situations. He has to protect the ball, but feel like there isn't a lot of creativity.

Off topic, but what is the advantage of triple option? Has any triple option been close to winning a national championship / conference title?
The only other triple option I remember is Georgia Tech...
Navy can't recruit the same athletes as other schools, so it gives them an advantage of being unique.

Anyone still want to bench BB? Just curious.

What is atkins doing today?
That might have hit one of our other guys... still his fault because he's supposed to be telling them to get away from it, but, I think he had to pick that one up.

Evans was more worried about running than catching.

Oh look, more rolling on the ground at guys legs.

I wouldn’t say that. They hardly ever get penalties.
They're dirty, watch the ol go on the ground and just roll to try and keep "blocking", I get being under sized and giving yourself an advantage, but when that puts the opponents at risk, it becomes a problem.

Not a great team to fall behind on, hopefully we can score and get a stop pretty quickly here.

I hate playing navy, diving at defenders knees, block in the back not called. Just painful to watch and probably impossible to play without getting major injuries.

Why would Atkins not just knock that out of bounds, forget recovering, he should have been slapping it to the sidelines after the initial drop. Rough start, hopefully offense came to play.

For the record, I have been quite hard on Simmons this season, I am happy to say that I see why he was out there and I was wrong. Great game.

Big confidence game for Brown. Kid looks good today.

Gotta make that sack.

Y'all get off of BBs case. Kid is doing a decent job with crap receivers. He's not perfect, but he's not as bad as you all make it out to be either.

Another laser, confident throws from BB today.
-
Wow, BB with a laser on that slant over the middle.

Love Goach's attitude here, we fell flat after the near-win at UF last year, can the team keep the intensity next week? That is fully on the coaching to control and it seems like he will have the team more prepared for moving on than they were last year.

OK, here is as good a spot as any for my post-mortem...
First, sorry gents, but the best of the best in women is taken. My wife and I had dinner reservations and a baby sitter Saturday evening... timed up well with the game with the exception of the weather delay. Not many women out there that would be 100% OK with hubby watching a football game on his phone at a $150 dinner for 2 on a much needed night out without the kiddos, but she was amazing. She also said that we could change up and go to ale house or somewhere else with the game on TV instead of our nicer place, but I declined that.
Anyway... I am convinced that our WRs have probably cost us both losses this year. We all see the QB play and QBs have a lot of pressure at all times, but the number of drops and inability of our WRs to make a big play is an absolute killer. Based on their play, I can't be convinced that they are even running the right routes at this point, much less in sync with their QB. Let's not be too hard on BB until we get some competence at the WR position. Couldn't tell from the awful camera angles, but didn't the announcers say that Brown dropped a perfect pass in right before the half that would have been a TD? There were other drops, there was another deep ball that looked long, but the receiver needs to leave his feet and try to make a play. Everyone wants to say "QB this or QB that" for the entire existence of our program, we have gone there, but there are 10 other guys on offense that have chances to make plays, catch a contested ball, make a defender miss a tackle, etc.
I firmly believe the BB would look better with Horn and Weaver and we likely would have won at least the WKU game and maybe this one.
In any event, I need that defensive effort 9 more times this year, if they keep playing like that, we'll be bowling.

No cheap points. Make them earn it if they get it.

I don't know what the issue is, I suspect it's instincts in our DBs and coaches trying to not get beat by the deep ball. Watching the game on Saturday, I thought our guys could have gotten 2-3 maybe even more picks, but they were just a bit slow to recognize the play. It's almost all soft zone, but when watching the QB, they should be able to break on a ball or 2. I really kept waiting for INTs to start stacking up with that QB, he was good, but not nearly as good as we made him look.
At the same time, we saw this with CWT, we can't get so locked into our ranking as a measure of how good our DC is doing. With a fast paced offense, the defense is stressed beyond their max. It is what it is, what we need out of our defense is more takeaways. They are going to give up yards and points due to being on the field a lot, but if they can steal some possessions it makes up for it.
