  1. It's all about pitching. If we can hold everyone we play to 0-2 runs, it takes a ton of pressure off of our bats and lets us play small-ball. It's not sexy, but, its the way softball was meant to be played. We have a few players looking to go deep with every at bat. That was our issue on Friday, too many flyouts from trying to go yard. Gotta put the ball on the ground and try to find some gaps.

  2. The stadium and fans looked great. The problem with being on ESPNU as opposed to ESPN or ESPN2 is the production level is less. On the other networks you would have had cut-aways to other parts of campus.

I agree with this. Loved how the stadium looked on TV and how you could see the Sun Dome in the background. It would have been a perfect opportunity to get the renovated Sun Dome some air time.

  3. It's like holding in football... with the hard throwers, you could very likely call it at least once/inning, but, it shouldn't be called unless it gives the pitcher an advantage and is blatant. The calls technically were correct, but in real time, it wasn't so obvious that the coach could have been whining about it during the game. He obviously honed in on it in film he watched and brought it up. Kudos to their coach, but, it was a bit ridiculous.

On the other hand, she did it the whole game, at least the ump never called it with a runner on third. That would have been devastating.

I'm less than impressed with our hitting. We need to figure out how to not pop up.

  4. So your saying the guys these coaches were coaching to be their guy at ECU is a reach and not a good qb? Are you saying he is not a system qb? Maybe he is not a Big East qb? I am confused as to what you ate trying to say. How was he a reach?

At least by his recruiting film I saw he scanned the field to find his open WR. Daniels hasn't shown he can do that :(

From what I remember, Gunsby was a guy that Holtz and crew were recruiting from their ECU days that flipped to us when Holtz came over.  So, i guess you can say that he is "C-USA - level" talent.. but at this point, with the Big East the way it is, I think he has enough to be competitive in conference.  I don't think the BCS conferences are completely Head & Shoulders above the mid-majors like C-USA in terms of talent (with the exception of maybe the SEC).

again, it all comes down to coaching and I think Holtz and crew don't want to mess this Gunsby kid up, even if its during a transition period.  And like he says, he doesn't like the idea of "baptizing" a kid into college football on the road in hostile environments against conference foes.  Its hard enough to do it, even with knowing the playbook inside & and out.

We don't know if he will be the savior, but i'm willing to bet he is better than what Leavitt left us at the helm

I think Gunsby is better than CUSA talent. He is gifted size wise, and from the little bit of film and in person snaps i saw of him he has good vision and seemingly good knowledge of defenses. If im not mistaken he was injured his Senior year in HS which may have allowed him to slide under the radar. Guys that are 6'4 230 and run 4.5s that throw a good accurate ball are hard to come by. Holtz recruited him to ECU so i have to believe he likes what he sees in him and thinks he can be our future QB.

I think you're right, he was hurt  for a little while. Everyone seems to forget that UF jumped on Gunsby late too. I can't remember if it was as a QB or not, but they were recruiting him. He also had an offer from Kentucky, so it's not like, only C-USA teams were recruiting him. Looking at his Rivals page, ECU isn't even listed. It would probably have been a reach for Skip to have landed him at ECU.

  5. If Gunsby or one of the incoming early enrollees are a better fit in the system things will work themselves out in the Spring/Summer.  People act like only good things can from from getting Gunz on the field but just as easily it could stunt his development or hurt his confidence.  Stick with BJ and let the best player win during the Spring/Summer/Fall Camp.

I don't buy this at all, it sounds like an excuse that failures made up to say why they failed. The truly great ones want to be on the field, no matter what. The can get their face kicked in on one play, and they want to get right back out there and kick some *** on the next play. If a guy's got it, he's got it.

I keep going back to this, but... MG's game against Cincy in 2007 is a game where, though he sucked, and we lost, I knew that Matt Grothe had "it". He never quit fighting and put his team back in the game. BJ doesn't have that ability it seems.

I don't know if Gunsby is the guy or not, but, I think he's the best fit that we have. You watch his highlights, and he has some touch, and anticipation with his receivers. He's also athletic enough to do some things with his legs. I am with others... I can tolerate a bad season this year with QB excuses. I can't do it again next year, whether it is BJ, or "he doesn't have any experience". Skip has to do anything and everything possible to fix this situation now. The program can't withstand 3-4 years of 4-win seasons.

If he's that guy he will be  better served to step in after he has a full off season under his belt.  As it stands right now he couldn't beat out a very unimpressive walk on QB for the back up spot.  As I've said all along roll with BJ this season then open it up in the off season.  Either BJ progresses and keeps the spot or one of the young guys, if they are as talented and such better fits for the system as some believe they will win the spot, unless this staff prefers to keep the less talented players on the bench.

This is a huge assumption. As people who saw them in camp stated, he looked like the number 1. It happens all the time. Brantley red shirted at UF. Was he not better then their back up?  Sam Bradford was a red shirt as well, was it because he couldn't beat out the number 2 guy (Joey Halzie?)? The point is, as others have said, if you have a guy that "should" be your starter and a solid QB, it only makes sense to red shirt the guy with the most potential so that he stays in the system longer.

If you want to compare Leavitt to Holtz, look no further than Carlton Hill...Leavitt let him play as a true freshman because he had a lot of potential, and Julmiste was a huge liability. When your "starter" can't get it done, you have to burn guys like that and hope you can recruit better for the future.

BJ needs to start against Cincy. If BJ continues to play like we've seen this year, Eveld and Ginsby should both get time in the second half, with whoever is better getting the start against RU at home. I don't agree with starting a rookie on the road if you can help it.

  7. I can't believe how many people are embarrassed by this.

    Things that embarrass me...

    1. Having the lowest APR on earth

    2. "alumni" on our message board who call our school a "joke"

    3. "alumni" here who can't write a coherent sentence

Those things embarrass me about USF.

As for not helping this kid get an education, who decided it was everyone's God given right to have an education? Most people on here had to work for their education. Hell, we may as well admit him, then just give him a degree so that he doesn't have to go through the trouble of studying and all. Should at least have a 3.5 GPA to help boost the team GPA also. That would solve our APR problems, right?
