  1. I don't see any excuses from anyone.  ??? UCF won fair and square. I hope we meet up in the NIT when we have two more highly touted players.

Some UCF fans crawled out their hole when they won the BBall game to stick out their chest. That is why everyone is so hostile to them.

As for the football. Maltliqua started talking about it so we just continued talking about it. Afterall this thread is aptly named "mind numbing USF/UCF drivel."

  2. Well since I came over BEFORE the game I figured I'd come by afterwards.  Sorry that Maltiqua was able to single-handedly keep 10 of you up all night.  We all have our message-board vigilantes.  He's apparently our version of FLSportsfan83 - but seemingly less emo.

Anyway - that was a great college basketball game.  It really was.  Nothing came easy for either team.  I know you were missing some guys - as were we (Diakite and Gaynor).  It's tough to say how much that affected us since we're talking about freshmen in a cast full of freshmen.  What we lost in Gaynor inside was made up for by surprising performances by Davis and Zondevan.

Look - this thread has been crapped out.  There's nothing to say about football.  It is what it is - and we are on the losing side of that.  Even when you gave us the game - we weren't good enough to beat you either time (06, 08).

Basketball - 18-5.  I dig it. Since this was our first win against you since 1994...I have to wonder if that means 3 of our wins came as a DII team - which makes me wonder why you even throw that stat around?  That's worse than losing to Bethune-Cookman.  But it's your stat to throw around so do with it as you wish.

Last night was a great game.  Vega - you've lost a lot of credibility with me going back to the Clanton thread on the prospect board.  You seem to know a lot about the game - but have an incredible bias.  Why did Clanton choose UCF?  Your analysis - he didn't want to compete against the best.  My analysis (which incidentally matches what he said) - he liked the fan support.

You guys also make yourselves sound even worse when you say "Oh look - this is UCFs final four"  because our fans are loud and our coach is pumped up.  Crazy story - that's how most schools with successful programs are EVERY night.  You guys have a great coach in Jim Leavitt and I've seen him get crazy against some bad teams.  We undoubtedly had a higher than usual turnout because it was an in-state game - but we had over 5K for most of C-USA play last year and the efforts to make our student section one of the best are paying off.

As long as you are citing watching a football game on TV as a reason to not go to a game in-person 60 miles away as your reason - then expect to be making excuses for kids like Clanton coming to UCF instead of USF for many years to come.  Frankly, your support is terrible and your team deserves better.

Honestly, how the HELL could you compare me to FlaSportsFan?  That's seriously offensive.  I think you're a Bull suck-up because you're afraid of a little confrontation.  Man up dork.

Look, I'm not the only one who feels that USF dodges UCF any chance it can get.  To the guy that said they didn't have program a decade ago, if you don't even know when your program was started how can you argue with me over our histroy??  If you take an objective look, it's seems obvious to me.  What OTHER reason can you give me for them ending the series given the money, the fan support and the natural feel to it?  Makes no sense.

I would say about 95% of UCiF fans know why the series is ending. Go ask someone else why USF is ending the series. IF YOU ARE STILL IN DOUBT, GO BEG FSU AND UF TO GIVE YOU A SERIES, SEE WHAT THEY SAY.

So USF dodged the greatest UCF team EVER? To the tune of 64-12.

  3. The crowd support is unbelievable for the Knights and this is going to be a problem. USF is not use to playing in the hostile of an enviroment. UCF is going to play over their head tonight. We are in trouble if we don't take this crowd out of the game.

BTW UCF fans are showing USF fans what it is like to support your team. Crowd support makes a big difference. We would be much better at home if we had it.

Most of the credit goes to the current student body, as more and more students here "get it"...as in support your team/school...as I think both new facilities at UCF (arena and stadium) are making a huge impact in regards to school spirit/support...and those investments will pay dividends down the road as more and more future alumni will have a much stronger connection to UCF Sports vs those that graduating in the past (stuck watching hoops in 2 small arenas and of course football games at the run-down citrus bowl) as they will become future boosters/season ticket holders in future years in much larger numbers compared to classes in the past.

UCF's overall alumni/booster support in basketball is still rather weak (much improved though since moving into the new arena) but I see those numbers improving in the coming years...as more students hooked on UCF Sports will be graduating.

The crowd at last nights game was the 2nd largest ever for UCF (6K). USF has done well over that numerous times. The largest being 10K against UCONN in 2005.

And Stan Heath HAS NOT VIOLATED ANY NCAA RULES SO STOP BEING AN A$$ hat about it on your board. IF he does then you can bash him.

  4. Old My GODDDDD... did you hear ucf just beat North Carolina.smiley_16.gif

Man to bad I had to go to work last night I missed all the excitement, lol.

The way that coach was acting and when the ucf player tossed the ball towards the ceiling you just knew that ucf beat the Tar Heels.

Man you guys are sorry... come over here to to stick out our chest, I mean at least don't be this predictable. I can't image a single USF fan with common sense would have came over to little knightsville to brag about beating ucf.

We are and have been looking forward to getting 2 of our more talented players suited up to play. If we would have won the game it only meant that this was the last game without Mercer and Gilchrist. Hell it still means that.

Vega, they are here because of you mostly.  Your ignorant posts about UCF on the recruiting board and how "USF will beat them by 25" gives them all the right to come here and pay you back.  If you were not such a fool, they would simply be here for a day to gloat and go way, but you can't seem to give credit where credit is due.

Now to the UCF fans, USF does basically own you in almost every sport and no matter how you go about talking about recruiting, it only matters what happens on the fields of play.

Each school is doing well, but they do have different missions it appears.  USF is about winning and there is nothing wrong with that, UCF is trying to have the perfect image, which in my mind is sending the wrong message to their fans.  They want to play with the big boys but don't want to get dirty like them.  You can't talk about getting good grade kids all the time and expect to beat BCS teams that only want the best athletes.  Until now, USF has done nothing wrong, so their way of doing it seems to be better.  I say until now because the NCAA is looking very closely at USF about now for two reasons.

APR - USF had a 917 APR and was on the same level as Washington State which lost 7 scholarships.  I am not sure how USF did not lose any scholorships, but if they are under again, they will lose at least that or more, the NCAA is going to watch what USF does there.

Gus Gilcrist - the hiring of a street agent and giving him an unposted job in this economy where budget cuts are costing Universities to cut jobs only raised a red flag on a coach that was thought to live in the grey area at Arkansas.  With both VT and Maryland asking the ACC President to look into this situation, the NCAA will not be far behind.  This is a sad attempt to compete with the big boys of the Big East and it only shines a light on a program that probably does not want it.

Now Vega and others will disagree, but facts are facts and what I posted above are just that.

Coach Stan Heath is innocent until proven guilty. Everybody knows what he did, and I'm sure he knew what he was doing when he did it. As far as I'm concerned he was just clever enough to find a way to get a recruit. Even Duke BBall has taken note of this....

  5. Also, since you only speak of the UCF "announced attendance average" we can do that as well. USF had an announced attendance average of 49,690 this season. That is still 9.5K more than UCF. Again, impressive for a year in which USF football widely underachieved its expectations for the season. 6-4 was not the record most USF fans thought we would have going into the last home game of the year.

  6. I was surfing the CUSA board today and came across a stat that UCF had only 23K at their game this weekend.  Which was probably less actual bodies.  With this type of attendance, we should never EVER hear from KnightLight and others about USF attendance and such.  They always seem quick to pull out stats and articles saved on their computer from years ago about USF...yet they can't even get 23K fans into a brand new stadium.  I though BHNS would gaurantee them sellouts and they would quickly be expanding the stadium to 65K within 4 years and BCS conferences like the ACC would be knocking on their door.  What happened.  When is the expansion of BHNS starting????

I was at that game.  There is a reason why I can't stand Thanksgiving weekend games.

There were next to no students there(a good 12k missing right there).  From what students have been saying, spending time with the family(away from campus) was more important than watching a 4-7 team stink it up.  I can't argue with that.  I'd say about 80% of season ticket turnout was there and there wasn't much in single game tickets.  23k being there is a fair assessment.

Now, my green and gold friend, the big difference in this argument is that your attendance troubles are during games that should not have issues.  Before this game, the season low for attendance was 40k for the Sunday ECU game.  In fact, that Sunday game was the lowest since the stadium opened before the Thanksgiving game.  UCF has historically had bad Thanksgiving weekend attendance, so weak numbers last week come to no surprise.

    2008 - 23644

    2006 - 23755

    2004 - 12083

    2003 - 12902

    2002 - 12462

This comes from being a young school with a still growing fan base with a large majority of students not being commuters.   Now, I don't expect you to get it, cause you rarely do, but all things considered, averaging slightly under 40k for a really bad season is a good indication that the fan base is growing and getting stronger.

I watched the ECU game on ESPN, and I really doubt there were 40K but maybe it was the second half that just looked really bad.

Every team in the NCAA has historically had bad thanksgiving weekend attendance because students/fans go away for the holiday. So that's kind of a moot point. Even FSU could barely sellout the best rivalry game in the state.

So when has USF had attendance troubles when it shouldn't have been an issue? The sunday game before thanksgiving against UCONN that started at 8:20? USF is not a "commuter school" there are more dorm rooms at USF than FSU, and some students/fans left early for the holiday. BTW, there are a large number of commuters at UCF as well. The thursday night against PITT was excusable as the Rays were playing there first playoff game ever.

Funny, I thought our football program was 18 years younger than yours. So, you've had more time to develop football fans and season ticket holders. USF is a young school as well and the fanbase is undoubtedly still growing.
