  1. uh, he drank the punch too?

    Zero,

You boys coming down to BrightHouse this fall to see your new rival, Miami play us?  It will be Miami fan fail all over the place.  You all can see what a great job your AD did by inking a series with their fan fail crew.

    :KoolAid

Once again, UM fans will fail to show up to all UCF games. USF games will get higher attendance from them as it is a more intriguing matchup. You may be surprised by how many of them show up at the USF game this year.:drinkup :deadhorse

  2. I would like to interject boys.  Jordan chose UCF for the following reasons:

    A. Competitive admission standards.  He knows that UCF gets more applications than FSU. No, it's not soley on academics, but Michael had plenty of discussion with Kirk about what we have to offer.  Our admissions are very impressive.

    B. Facilities.  Facilities. Facilities.

    C. Big East in 2010.

    Link?

Triple, I haven't been called "junior" recently, but I guess it's better than "son."  ;D

George O'Leary told a former UCF newspaper editor, but I can't divulge my specific source.

GOL is involved with basketball recruiting now?? You missed the point, Junior ..... show me where Marcus cited all those reasons as to why he chose UCF ..... Ah, nevermind, I'm sure that will be info from the circle jerk board or some other "double secret" source.

Triple, I haven't been called "junior" recently, but I guess it's better than "son."  ;D

You are a good man.  Ps: How you boys going to be in '09 with Selvie and Growthe?

I know you've seen the back of Grothe's jersey plenty to spell it right.  :D You know how many TDs he's scored against UCF? ;D

Grothe and Selvie are looking to go out on top with a big east championship. They are two of best players to ever put on a USF uniform. They will lead the team on each side of the ball.

You boys got any leaders next year? Grecko at QB?

  3. Whatever the reason, it's a good pick-up for UCF.  It will bring people in to watch and if they are winning, they may hang around for more.  Some people will come for (the real) MJ sighting....you've gotta figure he can afford to fly in for a game or two.  And finally....shoving a couple million to your son's school is pretty cool if you've got it.  It's a great deal for UCF...I'd take him in a heart beat even if I thought he was just "pretty good" for a college athlete.

Good post.  He was the MVP of his state championship team.  His coach says he may turn out to be one of the best.  He simply fell in love with our academics and facilities is what I am hearing.

Come on, enough with the academic ********!  Nobody is choosing UCF for their academics, just like they aren't choosing USF!

Agreed. I know Chalko is a major homer but nobody is choosing UCF for academics. It's a third tier school per US News & World report. Their student-to-faculty ratio is ridiculous, something like 600 students jammed into overcrowded classrooms. I doubt anyone is choosing Florida schools because of "academics," especially, with the budget cuts. Not even UF. He chose UCF because of easy playing time, his friend was already there, and facilities.

And stop being an @$$hat on our blog: http://blogs.tampabay.com/usf/2009/04/selvie-to-be-held-out-of-usf-spring-game.html#comments

Your comments on Selvie are disgraceful.

    Disagree.

UCF now has the 2nd largest number of National Merit Scholars in the State of FLA (ahead of every other school in FLA except UF)...and is the Top 35 nationwide in regards to National Merit Scholar Enrollment.

Oh...and the 4,300 plus students from all over the USA that applied for the 40 positions to UCF's new Medical School...well...some of them are the best of the best (i.e. $160,000 scholarship offer does ATTRACT some of the best of the best).

So while maybe a large number of people you and others know that are enrolling in USF, UCF and/or other schools for various reasons (i.e. close to home, less expensive, parents went there, received scholarships, etc...), there are people that enroll at every school that do so for "academic reasons" (including USF).

Fair enough. I know each school has unique programs that they are better at.

Was Marcus Jordan applying for medical school? You always bring up irrelevant facts.... we were talking undergrad.

If Marcus Jordan was so high on academics he would've accepted the scholarship offer to attend Stanford university... I bet they have good facilities also.

  5. 1) Built an on-campus 45,000 seat football stadium.

    2) Built a 10,000 seat state-of-the-art Basketball Arena

    .

KL, the football stadium is not state-of-the-art?

If today was April 1st...my answer would be: "Sure! Of course it is!!"

But like 95% of all college football stadiums...it is adequate...but more importantly, its ON CAMPUS.

Having to go to games at the Citrus Bowl for 2 plus decades...I would have taken ANYTHING on campus over that dump...but BHNS turned out much nicer than I had originally thought...but as I noted in the very beginning...the UCF Arena is really the crown jewel/hidden gem of all the projects...as it is a very SWEET on-campus facility.

Q: USC, Miami, and Pittsburgh... what do they all have in common?

Answer...Pitt and Miami now play in front of tens of thousands of empty seats in NFL Stadiums in their metro area.

USC on the other hand...plays in basically THEIR stadium which is located RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM CAMPUS (as everyone who has gone to a game there knows), and actually, more of their campus is closer to the Coliseum vs UCF's Southside of campus is located to BHNS.

    What was your point again?

My point was that you DO NOT need an on campus stadium to establish tradition or become a good football program. As mentioned, some schools have done well without it, and USF is doing VERY WELL impressing recruits about playing on the best playing field in the NFL. Miami is a SMALL PRIVATE schools that has a large out-of-state fan base, much different. PITT did pretty well attendance-wise this year, but they are still a much smaller schools than USF. USC had MAJOR attendance issues before Pete Carrol resurrected their program. USF will establish tradition and excellent football without an on campus stadium, and the tailgating is very good although not like on campus....

    Knight clown spin in 1....  2.....  3.....

A: They play in OFF CAMPUS stadiums and have won/played in multiple national championships. Plus, recruits LOVE the idea of playing in *gasp* an NFL stadium.  :moon

  7. Is there an athletic department in the entire country that does this much LESS, with more? Too bad your facilities don't translate to on field success--that is, afterall, the reason they are important. They haven't helped UCiF much, so they don't mean much...

Woolard has focused more on scheduling, coaching, raising funds, and communicating with alums. Obviously, he needs to more about our facilities but he will lead USF to national prominence... 8)

  8. FIU beat Middle Tennessee State on 10/11/2008 by a score of 31-21.

Middle Tennessee State beat Florida Atlantic on 09/30/2008 by a score of 14-13.

Florida Atlantic beat Alabama-Birmingham on 09/06/2008 by a score of 49-34.

Alabama-Birmingham beat Central Florida on 11/29/2008 by a score of 15-0 (on the road!).

So FIU is better than UCF.

Transitive theory means nothing. UCF took us to overtime this year. The FIU game was never in doubt. So, UCF is better than FIU? All that matters is the games that are actually played. :Bang

  9. **** we had gone almost a month without a UCF thread. Now we're back to this crap again. Thanks a lot, velcro.

    What did velcro do??

He moved the thread (about JPP) started by Chad from the Prospects & Potential Recruits board. Over there it would've trickled down the page when people got bored of it, but over here it will remain on top...

Chad started another one here about post season hoops so it didn't matter that the one was moved here ..... of course, me replying to your post is keeping this to the top and fulfilling your prophecy.  ;)

I'm only replying to this post because this thread is already at the top.  :D

The preston parker thread on the main board should be here shortly as it FSU-related. :)

  10. I love how UCiF fans ALWAYS have to resort to the lame academics arguments on message boards that were meant to discuss football. Anyway, USF has improved it's academic profile every year, and they have gotten a big boost from having a GOOD football team. I believe the number of applicants for this year's class are higher than ever before, and this is expected to be our best class ever. For that reason, I don't expect UCF's numbers to keep rising. Sorry, you can't keep increasing enrollment and standards while competing against other in-state schools that are improving as well.

As for football, I heard that some UCF fans puked when they heard that JPP committed to us. Link below:

    Funny stuff.

  11. I had to dig this up for absolutely no reason other that I thought about it and the **** is hillarious

You just finished having a successful win at a bowl game and you are thinking about UCF!!!  You are one sad puppy.

Sad to say, but I actually agree with you knight fan. I would expect this sometime later in the offseason but not at the time it was posted...

  12. Guys, we can no longer ink a series as it is now evident we are big 3 as far as facilities are concerned.

    ;D

    Congrats on that moral victory....

I think Genshaft has focused her efforts on attaining research grants for USF. Hitt has focused on improving facilities. I'm sure Genshaft could do the same if she wasn't so tied up with getting over $360 million in research expenditures. It will take more than just the new student union to attract future students to USF, IMO.

  13. Moffitt is connected to USF medical school by a short walkway, and is a learning environment for med students so that is a moot point. Additionally, USF undergrads and professors do research at Moffitt. It's not a restraunt or anything. I think Zero makes some salient points. It sounds like UCF is selling state property to build amenities to keep their students entertained. It doesn't sound right.
