My take away from this is that Taggart will need to be caught in bed with a dead girl or live boy in order to get fired.

My take away is that Harlan knows what needs to be done and doesn't rely on message boards and instant satisfaction.

If it's better for the program, Taggart's gone... if not, Taggart gets another year

I don't see how keeping him is better for the program. His philosophy is boring, doesn't work here and is driving fans away. Are they looking to see how few season tickets they can get next year?

    Easy:

    1) Affordability.  He's the one that knows more than anyone else whether or not USF can even afford bringing in a new coach

    2) I've heard many arguments (from talk shows, news, even from other struggling programs long long ago) that firing a new coach that doesn't succeed fairly early makes it more difficult to bring other quality coaches. Most coaches probably agree (based on new coach speeches) that the first year is usually a rebuilding year and is a throw away.  So now if the program doesn't produce the 2nd year they are kicked out...?  Coaches want time to build up a bad program.

    3) Related to #2... Harlan may have already sent out feelers and know what's currently available.

Also, unless the new coach is a splash hire, it would have little effect on attendance. Most of the ones leaving/left are tired of the losing and won't be back until the winning starts again ...

I can only speak for myself but the only way I won't renew next year is if Taggart is back.  Don't need a splash hire to sell me, just some semblance of hope.

  2. Brody, I'm a finance major as well. From a banker's perspective, I disagree with you 110%.  Companies who act in the way you want our athletic department to act rarely make good/succesful clients.  Our #1 priority should be paying down all the debt we've accrued upgrading our facilities thus far. I haven't seen the books but I'm sure these upgrades were made with the assumption our revenues were going to increase substantially.

I highly doubt spending $14MM on the construction of an IPF is going to make much of a difference to the Big XII/ACC.  Invitations will be given to institutions which add value ($$$) to their brand.  An IPF, while making us marginally a more attractive destination for HS athletes, doesn't accomplish that.

I have never seen such a fiscally responsible fan base, can't imagine we will ever get a OCS with this type of attitude.  I think USF should aim large, I think big things are around the corner, and we will soon make that 30 million back.  Showing conferences we are willing to spend money only helps us, because it shows we are dedicated towards building a winner.  Our potential is our biggest asset we should be looking for ways to increase this, and it may just land us a spot back in a BCS conference.  Doing nothing and just sitting on this cash is a good indicator that we would do the same if gifted with big time TV money.  By spending big it means you mean big, but hey I guess conference USA will be a blast....again.  We shouldn't be preparing for uncertainty, but instead doing everything we can to get a spot back in BCS football, if we miss this chance with open conference realignment we may never get another.  At least we will have a balanced budget WOOOH

Brody love the passion but please  don't  do any financial planning or return on investment projects any time soon...

IMO No CEOor financial director would buy into your reasoning...Now if YOU were willing to loan us the 15M interest free we could talk.

    Go rich Bulls

weird I am a finance major

  3. I'd love to hear what % of three star players fail appear in 40 college games or start 20 games or have one above-average season. I bet you its a lot higher than the % of Rivals top 100 players. I hate when people try to make the arguement that stars don't mean anything. The likelihood a 5-star winds up a better player 3-star is pretty high. That said, I know there are exceptions to the rule (Selvie etc.), but if you look at it realistically, this stars don't matter arguement is invalid.

  4. Dont reallly see many surprises happening unless we turn WR-Richard Benjamin or pull in WR-Stacy Coley

Well of course you don't. If you were able to see it coming, it wouldn't be a surprise.

Haha, a "surprise" for me would be when we are considered a longshot for a recruit who we end up pulling in on NSD. Things seem more black and white this year. Outside of Kirkland (gone), M Brown, Coley, Benjamin & Woulard (would be an all-time shocker), I don't see any opportuniities for surprises. Nobody is going to come in from left field who hasn't been discussed before imo.

  5.

After living in Cincy about a year, you may see him come back. That place absolutely sucks compared to Florida. I've travelled all over and it's got to be one of the places I dread most when I know I need to go there.

Even so, he wouldn't be allowed to transfer within the conference to USF.
Isn't that up to the coach of the team a player is transferring from? (Not that Tuberville would ever release someone freely anyway)

Pretty sure it's in the conference bylaws. Coach can choose where to release a player too, but conference mates are are completely off limits.

  6.

hes a good kid..and he knows he has a shot to start..its between him and eveld..no reason to believe flloyd will get better with coaching. He sucked coaching doesnt really help a qb if he sucks.

Because nobody in the histroy of football has ever improved with coaching/experience...

  7. I don't think CWT would bring in guys with grade issues. If I remember correctly his contract has some sort of clause about the APR. I'm going to have to go back and search GA's blog post for all the link police on here.

There is also an unwritten clause that says he needs to win. I'm sure we'll continue to take a chance here or there on recruits with grade issues, specially ones at a position of need.

  8. Sure, UCLA looks good. So do most of the women in Cali until you get to know them. If he thinks he is so amazing that he is going to beat out a freshman starter that played really well then best of luck to him. I would like to think that these kids have smarter people around them then that. Most of the time I am proven wrong. If he is not outright better then the current starter he does not replace him. Why not go somewhere that has an easier road to the starting spot? Just my opinion.
I think he has Dilfer in his ear about heading to Cali. Not many around smarter than Dilfer right....right.....?
