  1. Just great news...although the Crystal ball is still cloudy, on paper he fills possibly the only glaring hole next year.

If he's as good as we hope he is at shooting, he certainly fills that hole. The other hole is depth at the 4/5 poisition; just need another able body behind Perry and Big John (Jordan OMG just isn't capable of stepping in if these guys get into foul trouble).

  2. The field conditions seem to have been deteriorating over the last couple of years.  It USED to be very good.  Not anymore.  Probably more penny pinching from the Glazers or the TSA.

Its really gone down hill since the U2 concert. That stage just killed everything, and the resod just wasn't the same.

  3. It's difficult to judge the offense at this point for a few reasons.

    1) No Collins. Allen is a capable substitute, but AC is still the general on the floor.

    2) Fast pace. I think that the guys are still adjusting a little to the faster pace. Some of the turnovers and mis-timing is the result of this and it should improve with each game.

    3) The new rules. Players, coaches and officials are still figuring out these new "freedom of movement" rules. I do hope the NCAA starts a reevaluation soon because the games are taking too long. They're getting more points, but most of them seem to be cheap FTs not actual offense.

As for defense, I think you're right. This is a long, quick, quick-handed, athletic team, that could really cause havoc as they sync up with each game.

Approved. We'll be sitting proper at 4-0 when Oklahoma St. rolls into town to a rollicking scene at the dome. USF-borne-cynicism tells me we'll blow a few conference games we shouldn't and get snubbed for the dance, but this young squad is CBI champs at worst.

I still hold to the belief that we should never accept a bid to any post season tournament below the NIT.

Unless you're worried about injuries, why would you not want to USF play as many games possible?

Looking at last years CBI, you have 15-17 Purdue, 16-17 Texas, 17-15 Tulsa, and a bunch of 19+ win midmajors. Santa Clara ended up beating George Mason in the finals.

I just don't think mediocrity should be rewarded with a post season tournament. It's like all these 6-6 bowl teams. I don't want a ribbon for finishing in 9th place.

Why didn't Collins play (soreness, slight injury, PT for Allen)?

Still recovering from injury ... Not even sure he's a definite for Saturday.

    He was injured?

I just thought it was to get more playing time for the rest.

Also, I was surprised that Rudd returned after his quick ankle injury. I would have thought Stan would sit him the rest of the game just as a precaution so he'd be ready to roll on Saturday.

To bad they don't have the support of the community because I feel they will be really good this season.

Not so fast, my friend. Tampa loves a winner; let's so how quickly the community gets behind this years' team, assuming they get on pretty awesome hot-streak. I'll be there tonight.

The basketball team won't be embraced by the community by in season win streaks. It's going to take good years strung together to have any kind of chance of that ..... and honestly, I don't give that much of a crap about the community. It's the students who are needed to anchor the support.

Bingo. When that west end is packed with students, all standing and cheering, the atmosphere is awesome. It's just a matter of getting their butts there and standing the whole time.

We really need to look at other schools as to how they run their student sections. Look at UCF's "Knightmare", UF's "Rowdy Reptiles", Duke's "Cameron Crazies". Build a model after them with incentives, chants, names, a section shirt, etc.

  8. we sound so optimistic

the downgrade in schedule will surely bring more wins

There's a slight downgrade in the schedule during conference play, but not much of one. We still have UL, UC, UConn, throw in the arrival of Memphis and Temple, and it's still a tough conference slate.  The non-conference portion looks to be strong also with Alabama, OK State, Miss State, UNLV (hopefully) and FGCU (we'll see how they are this year.

I actually think this is one of the best schedules we've had. Much like the Big East, there won't be a night off in conference play, but I don't think it will be a grueling. I think that will benefit the old Big East teams this year over the CUSA arrivals. Many of those teams knew they had an easier match against the likes of UTEP or ECU; you won't get away with that even with Rutgers or Houston.

The x-factor though will be how the officiating will call the games. Will they allow a more Big East style, banging down low? Or do we get a more finesse style, more ACC like? I hope it's the former.

Anyhow, to the original point, this is a good schedule for USF. It gives us a fair balance of cupcakes and solid games to build a resume for March. Plus, I'm so glad we get to play all the conference teams twice, so it's a balanced schedule.

  9. I'm really interested to see how the teams do when conference play begins. You have 5 old Big East teams, 4 CUSA, and 1 A10, So I'm expecting there to still be a Big East style of play and I wonder how the 5 other teams will adapt to that (although its still not the same without SU, GU, ND, MU, Pitt). You didn't have off-nights in the Big East like you might in CUSA, so it will be interesting to see how UCF, SMU, or Houston handles having to play 18 games of competitive, close games. Plus I'm wondering where the officials will come from and what they will allow.

  10.

@USFFootball SUNDAY STATS: #USF total defense ranks 23rd in the NCAA & 4th in ACC giving up 310.2 ypg, with back-to-back games opp. under 230 yards.

@USFFootball SUNDAY STATS: #USF pass defense leads the ACC & 9th in the nation allowing 140 ypg through the air.

@USFFootball AAC rankings: #USF pass defense leads the AAC & 9th in the nation allowing 140 ypg through the air.

Polishing a turd and getting it wrong at the same time.  Unless they know something about joining the ACC.

  11. 1)  Greatest Win of All Time?

USF vs West Virginia 2007. FSU is a close 2nd, followed by Auburn.

    2)  Greatest Loss of All Time?

McNeese State. The Sun Bowl and the Army homecoming game are not far behind.

    3)  If not attending game in East Lansing, where will you be watching?

I won't. I'll be working at my internship, trying to pick up a signal on my cell phone to get game updates.

    4)  Do you prefer playing Big10 or ACC teams?

I prefer playing ACC teams at home, B1G teams on the road.

    5)  Would you take a :03-nutkick:  for a win against Michigan State?

Yes, but with the following stipulations; 1) it guarantees victory, 2) I get to pick the kicker, and 3) I am not told when the kick will occur, only that it will happen between midnight and noon tomorrow.
