hopefully some news will be made tomorrow
-
wollard needs to hire greg marshell before the final 4
-
what an embarrassment
-
Screw marshall and hire someone that wants to be here. he is just wasting our time
-
I'm with joebulls, hire pete gillen already, i have a feeling we aren't going to get marshall
-
I'm happy he says no thanks, he wasn't really a person I could see as turning this program around anyways
-
Pete Gillien wants the job.
Why don't we give it to a guy who wants it...
I have to agree. Plus he has major conference experience. He will probably get the job if we don't get Marshall signed SOON
-
it shows that usf and doug woolard is serious about basketball.
-
some people are saying that we shouldnt hire him because he comes from the big south conference which is a terrible conference. are these the same people saying we should hire john pelphrey from the sun belt??
-
JP Peterson said on tonight's 11 oclock news that the signing of Marshall was pretty much a done deal. He said his friends at the Tampa Tribune were his source.
awesome

when you are a coach at a program like winthrop and you have an upset in the NCAA tourney then you take a new job offer the next season. although that upset was also against a team that RMC beat
by the way...joe i have no idea what you are talking about? i dont think i have ever had 1 post that is 7 paragraphs long.
joe's probably been drinking tonight.

43/44? around that I believe
I like it... if true.
I'm kinda sure about it. I mean I couldn't find his official date of birth but I looked at the Winthrop website and it said he received his bachelors degree in 1985, which means he should have been around 22, meaning he was born around 1963
haha... yea I did the same and saw 1985, but you never know if he had a late start or if it may have taken him 5 years, etc.
By his picture, it seems like he is young.
very true, he could have had a late start, I don't know why but I can't find his date of birth. I even googled his name and still can't find it

just changed my vote to gregg marshall too

Calm down... haha
FIRE AWAY DW!
Don't make him go to bed!
BTW: How old is this guy?

Does this mean that he has an offer from us?
Thats what I am wondering. I wonder if its just preliminary talks or if a contract was offered and maybe they are negotiated terms?? I'm probably getting ahead of myself. I just want someone hired already!
-
awesome, woolard needs to make it happen

I was just reading Andy Katz's column on ESPN.com. (I don't know how to get the link here). He says Doug Woolard was at Gregg Marshall's house Tuesday night. Gregg Marshall was considering flying to Tampa tonight (Wednesday) for further talks with our AD. According to Andy Katz if Marshall does not get the USF job then Fran Faschilla (ESPN college basketball analyst and former St. John's coach) might be considered for the job here. The article also says USF wanted Anthony Grant but he is staying at VCU. Very interesting stuff!
man thats some good info, hope andy katz isn't lying. hiring marshall would be a great thing for this program

We'll have a new coach within the next 7 days at the most.

You guys aren't in "SEC COUNTRY" so I wouldn't expect you to believe half of the stuff I'm relaying, but the folks I'm hearing this stuff on are the people who are pulling many of the strings with their wallets and like I said, have been DEAD ON most of the time. We were way ahead on the Saban story well before the rest of the country was here in my office. Shoot, Bear Bryant used to fish with the uncle of my hunting buddy so he's tied into Bryant "jr" and one thing about the SEC, is they know what's going on behind the scenes at most of the schools. Alabama is a funny place I've learned. It's not like Tampa in any way where the majority of people don't have "roots" going back very far. Here, these families have known eachother dating back to the 1800s and with that comes a network many wouldn't believe.
I'll take living in tampa over alabama anyday
-
I just wouldn't feel comfortable hiring a guy with no head coaching experience in college basketball. I think Doug Woolard feels the same way
-
Gillien is My top candidate right now .
If you cant have a ford - a chevy will have to do.
I like how he really wants the job.
He won some big games at Providence.
I want a BMW

I can see the headlines on News Channel 8.
"USF's got a new basketball coach, John What-the-Hell from South Alabama is the new skipper on Fowler Avenue"
and then the locals change the channel to "Deal or No Deal."
When is USF going to make the big move?
This is depressing.
Deal or No Deal is already on news channel 8 ;D

so did Mac with his 3 years at WMU.
virtually identical results. If Mac had stayed for his 4th year his recruits took the next coach to the tourney. and the year after they went to the NIT. Identical.
You do know that WMU was in the NCAAs 2 years before RMC was hired and they had 7 winning seasons in 9 years...
Whereas USA had been struggling 6 years without making the tourny (where they had been regulars for years under TAMU-CC coach Ronnie Arrow)
This is NOT an upgrade. The guy has been wallowing in the Sunbelt for 5 years now with an overall record of 80-67. 36-48 his first 3 years.I mean, he's only gotten Southern Alabama to a decent level. I admit his record isn't great, but your talking about a guy that has been considered "the next Billy Donovan" since late 90s/early 2000s. He's won 20 games at a program like USA the last 2 years. It's not even a "mid major" WMU is at least in a "mid major" conference.
We need to make the push for Grant now or this is all for not.I agree! However, Grant's price is going to be at least 750k; plus several upgrades. There are several jobs out there that are going to be making a run. I just don't think he's a realistic candidate, especially when a coach from EKU is turning the job down.
