  1. Why doesn't this rate a headline on the board. Its probably in a thread, but c'mon most of us blow off the fairer sex threads.

USF Women Upset No. 11 DePaul In OT

    By GREGG BECNEL Tribune correspondent

TAMPA - It was a historic night in a new conference against an old foe.

In its inaugural Big East game Wednesday night at the Sun Dome, the University of South Florida women's basketball team defeated No. 11 DePaul, a former Conference USA rival, 79-77 in overtime.

The Blue Demons (7-1, 0-1) are the highest-ranked team USF (6-1, 1-0) has beaten in school history - men's or women's. The victory also extends the Bulls' home winning streak to nine.

Wednesday's game will be televised at 9 tonight on Catch 47 on Bright House Networks.

"We were at a low a couple of years ago," said senior forward Ezria Parsons, who finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals. "But we feel we're an NCAA Tournament team. We feel we're as good as anybody in the country."

Jessica Dickson, who played all 45 minutes and was one of five Bulls to play at least 36, scored a season-high 35 points, including four 3-pointers. She shot 11-of-19 from the floor and nine of 10 at the free-throw line. It was her third 30-plus-point outing in the past four games.

"Dickson works hard to get the ball," DePaul coach Doug Bruno said. "And once she gets it, it's hard to stop her."

The Bulls were able to harass Blue Demons All-American center Khara Smith (17 points), who fouled out at the 4:52 mark of the second half with USF up 60-58.

"We really attacked her in some of our sets and we went at her," Bulls coach Jose Fernandez said. "Defensively, we always wanted her to turn to the middle. We had two or three people in the lane, so when she turned middle our help was there and we were able to take a couple of charges."

Without Smith in OT, USF built a 76-70 lead and held off DePaul's late rally.

Freshman point guard Shantia Grace had a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 10 assists, and center Sharon Cambridge came up big down the stretch, scoring all 12 of her points in the second half.

After losing at No. 7 North Carolina last week, USF closes out its three-game stretch against ranked teams when the Bulls host No. 13 Michigan State on Saturday.

    Great win girls!! Congratulations!!

  2. Google that passage and you get a link here, pretty cool.

11 Not that I say this because of need, for I have learned, in whatever situation I find myself, to be self-sufficient.

12 I know indeed how to live in humble circumstances; I know also how to live with abundance. In every circumstance and in all things I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry, of living in abundance and of being in need.

Oh yeah, here is my overview:

    USGSBombingRangeCloseup1.jpg

A lot of bombs dropped, craters and a few high points that are barely visable from here. (mostly on defense, which played pretty darn well)

  3. This is Rivals stuff and we got one mention. I want to break these down further, like the % that went to spread offenses. I think the spread hurts us when going after players who want to become pros. I will have more later.

  4. Twenty - all Floridians - sign as Bulls' first class

    [CITY Edition]

JOHN C. COTEY. St. Petersburg Times. St. Petersburg, Fla.: Feb 8, 1996

Coach Jim Leavitt appeared tired Wednesday afternoon. His ever-present smile was only sporadic, his typically upbeat manner more subdued and his tone less vibrant.

But if anything typified the long hours and relentless recruiting the new coach has put in since taking over at USF, it was the large number of players he signed.

On the first-ever signing day at USF, 20 players put their signatures to letters of intent as the Bulls' first class of football players took shape.

"We've got a number of team captains, players that are academically strong, and athletically gifted that are part of this recruiting class," Leavitt said, "but there are a number of players we are still actively recruiting. We have really just begun."

USF released a list of 18 players who have signed either full or partial scholarships. Not on that list were at least six players who have committed. Two of those - Dixie Hollins' Curtis Andrew and Ocala Forest's Randall Rolle - confirmed they signed but weren't on the list.

USF plans to release an updated list Friday. Every signee so far is from Florida.

"It's been overwhelming to me the interest we've had across the state," Leavitt said.

USF chose not to single out the first "official" signee, instead focusing on the entire class. Leavitt also said there would be no distinction made between those players getting full or partial offers, or those walking on when the full list is released.

Leavitt has said all along the Tampa Bay area would be his primary source of recruits. Ten of the signees are from Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Manatee counties.

Hillsborough High School had three players sign, the most of any school. A fourth, 6-1, 323-pound tackle Dietrick George, said he will sign Saturday.

"It was kind of a relief," Terriers tight end Isaac Bristol said. "I went to a basketball game last year and saw Jesse Salters and his family had their own little cheering section. I picture us having that for football. It was a good feeling over there."

Sipp was one of five offensive linemen to sign, the most of any position for the Bulls, including all-staters Larry Scott (6-5, 260) of Sebring and Ocala Forest's Tony Cleveland (6-4, 265). Fourteen of the 20 signed are offensive players.

USF signed three running backs, three wide receivers and two quarterbacks, Garret Jagdmann (6-3, 180) of Sarasota and Estero's Anthony Henry (6-1, 175). Jagdmann threw for 1,036 yards and 12 touchdowns for the 11-2 Sailors.

Leavitt said he expects to sign two or three more quarterbacks.

All-State defensive backs Donnie Casey (5-11, 180) of Lake Mary and Palm Beach Lakes' David Thompson (5-11, 170) head the list of defensive players.

USF will redshirt its entire first class before beginning play in 1997.

Three players turned down USF: Hillsborough's Ishmael Knight (Kansas), Tarpon Springs Theo Mougros (Clemson) and Dixie Hollins' Glenn Davis (Purdue). SOUTH FLORIDA (20)

Reading the complete details of the Leavitt deal it occured to me that the nickel and diming days may be over at USF athletics.

This is the first time, at least in my memory, that something got done in a first class way. No penny pinching or crying poor. They wanted to keep the coach and they did what it took to make it happen.

Congratulations and thank you, thank you and thank you.

It seems to be part of a trend. A new attitude and philosophy. They renovated part of the SunDome right? I haven't seen it so I cannot speak to what kind of job was done, but it has been a long time in the coming. Now I can't wait to see what happens with the baseball stadium.

Happiness and joy all around guys.  ;D

  6. Desire leads to suffering. Like the desire to win . . .

"Four Noble Truths," which are the foundation of all Buddhist belief:

1.) All human life is suffering (dhukka ).

2.) All suffering is caused by human desire.

3.) Human suffering can be ended by ending human desire.

4.) Desire can be ended by following the "Eightfold Noble Path": right understanding, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration.

  7. I doubt he would leave if USF gives him any kind of new commitment. If they bump him $200K he is looking at almost breaking even with Kansas state income tax and the cost of relocating.

Then considering the "dream job" label, his home, his daughter who would probably not move with him and a better BCS situation here.

That said I doubt he would even consider staying for a bowl game. He is all business about stuff like that and would be on his way to Kansas if he took the job to prepare for the next game.

So my answer remains the same: No. Especially if its only about a hundered thousand dollars.

  8. Dark Lords of the Sith, may I become an apprentice/guardian  while I wait to see how the year turns out.

I wanted RMC, I needed RMC but now I don't think I can handle RMC.

He will either be great or a complete failure, nothing in between. Sad to say, but there are not enough great kids (with character and discipline) with Big East level talant for him to sign. The kind of kids he needs go to Duke, Stanford or UNC. I love the plan but USF is now in the Big East and has to be competitive. Sometimes you gotta make chicken salad outta chicken $%^& long enough to get established.

I hope he makes it, but I am ready to train for the worst case scenario if you'll have me.

When was the last time a Big East team lost to the likes of FIU?

  9. Bowl eligible  Bowl eligible  Bowl eligible  Bowl eligible

Bowl eligible  Bowl eligible  Bowl eligible  Bowl eligible

I keep saying it and saying it.  We are probably going to Charlotte for our first bowl game.  This how I am getting over the loss.

    Um . . .

"Being bowl eligible doesn't mean you're going to a bowl game." Jim Leavitt

    http://www.sptimes.com/2005/11/28/Sports/Bowl_berth_by_no_mean.shtml

Thats why it hurt so much, it left our bowl destiny in someone elses hands.
