  1. You wont see a mens swimming team any time soon. We have too many men's scholarships at this time.

Besides, the correct thing to do is to build the base for the other sports first. Then when we have money we can add other sports.

Do you really think our pool facilities are Big East material? Absolutely not.

No, they're not Big East material.  But the money could be set to build up the new sports so that the entire athletic department can be represented in the conference.  As of now, football/basketball/baseball will compete in the Big East at a respectable level.  USF won't be the Rutgers of the Big East.  But you also can't expect to just throw money at a select few sports and assume those sports will automatically be top notch.

Plus, walking into the Big East will provide plenty of money through BCS contracts and the such, much more than USF is scoring through CUSA.

  2. "Why can't we have the best athletic department in the Big East?"

To have the best athletic department in a big time conference, you first have to field all the sports for that conference.  He needs to add sports like Men's and Women's Swimming to the department before making proclamations like that.  Facilities are nice, but if you don't have an entire slate covered, you're not making noise as an entire Athletic Department in the conference.

  3. I'm trying to push for a men's and women's swim team at USF.  In terms of Title IX, it would be a wash.  It won't cost much to start up a team since there's already a facility.  The Big East is a semi-respectable swimming conference, where USF will be the only major school (outside of the 2 basketball schools joining, Depaul and Marquette) that doesn't have a swim team.  Add to that the fact that Florida is a huge recruiting ground for swimming, and this seems too logical.
