Borders Leads Tampa to Victory Over #8 Florida Southern

Lakeland, Fla. – Mark Borders scored a team-high 23 points as the University of Tampa (11-2, 2-0) men’s basketball team posted a 65-54 road victory over eighth-ranked Florida Southern (9-3, 1-1).

Tampa led for all 40 minutes of the game as Chris Evans scored 17 points in the first-half to help the Spartans to a 33-19 halftime lead. Evans finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds along with three blocked shots. Borders, the Sunshine State Conference leader in assists, led the Spartans with seven.

The Spartans shot 40.0 percent from the field and held the Moccasins to a 30.8 percent mark. Tampa’s defense also held Florida Southern’s leading scorer Michael Simms to two points. Tampa also outrebounded Florida Southern 40-31.

Tampa is back in action on Saturday as it hosts Lynn at 4:00 pm.

    Just for you, ET  ;D

  2. I knew about this like 4 days ago.

We aren't getting him if that is what your hoping for. I'm not sure he's any better than Hill or Grothe or some other guy we have in the first place.

Do we want a guy who is afraid of the competition that lies in front of him anyway? He'd have to earn it here just like anyone else. "You will be my starter" tall tales are more of a Tallahassee specialty.

You mean Gainseville, right?  Bowden doesn't use that line.  That was how Ron Zook was pulling in the recruits.  For what it's worth, Spurrier and Meyer don't use that line, either.

  3. As long as there aren't any political roadblocks keeping Leavitt from doing what he needs to win (not being allowed to decide if assistants get hired or fired, etc,) I just don't see him leaving.

Not only is this his baby, his baby is right on the verge of growing up and doing big things.  I don't see him leaving after putting in all that hard work, just when it's about to go prime time.

Seeing how KSt is willing to offer Leavitt 3x's the amount he's making at USF, and how he has ties to KSt, it makes a lot of sense.

  4. Triple, I had only read the first post when I replied.  After that is when I read the rest, my bad.

As for everyone else, I'm in grad school at USF right now.  I've seen both ends of it.  I've seen now how the administration handles the undergrad and graduate programs.  They don't care about the undergrad at all.  They put all their resources into the grad programs.  The profs don't care to teach an undergrad class, it's a necessary evil to them that just gets in their way.  And in doing so, they treat undergrad as such, and do not put their attention towards it, further diluting the undergrad education.  I completely agree that an education is what you take out of it, but there has to be some level of education to take before you can do such.

But hey, way to go in just assuming I "didn't get into" the school.

As for the topic at hand....no need to change the name.  USF is becoming a well-known "name" school nationally thanks to a) the football team being in the Big East, and B) the graduate programs turning USF into a top-notch research institution.

Oh, and one other thing, I wouldn't fit in with the Oracle.  That paper blows, and is WAY too left of me.

  5. Not in the conference title hunt?  Who's gonna beat them on their side?  Miami?  Virginia?  They've already taken down arguably the best on that side in Georgia Tech.  The only team with a shot of knocking them off in the ACC is FSU.  Right now VT would probably be the best bet of any team to beat USC, although I doubt they'll get a shot since Texas won't be dropped if they run the table.
