  1. All year long I talked about definitely going to the first bowl game ever for USF. As the BCS talk started I was even more excited. As we beat Rutgers, 'Cuse and Cincy ... I said ok I'm going to the WVa game and win or lose following the Bulls to their bowl game - either very proud of raining on the BCS or happy to be there in the Car Care. BUT THEN, they took a crap at UCONN. After that game, I said heck with the WVA game and I'm staying home for the holidays. I'm just not as excited as I once was and it's all because of the crap showing at UCONN. Still third place in the Big East certainly isn't 7th, where most had us ... Drink one for me.

  2. This is the topic I've been waiting to read about since we first started football. I really wanted to beat UCF to a bowl since it had a 25-year head start on us, but as it became more evident both schools would enjoy their first bowl concurrently, I had mixed feelings. I watched much of the C-USA title game and must admit to rooting for Tulsa, but knowing UCF was going bowling and USF too, I guess overall it becomes a "hurray for Florida" thing and also don't look now, but USF played six bowl teams this year and went 3-3 against them - I'll take that for a year I was expecting 4-7 overall. I still want to WIN a bowl game before UCF, so go Nevada. And I'm also interested in seeing how much money UCF "makes" after the entire tally comes down with respect to taking a trip to Hawaii. I recall when USF was in C-USA, teams complained about losing money going to that bowl game because of the cost to ship everybody and everything out there ...

  3. You've obviously never attended a race. When you do, come talk to me.

Had the chance to see ONE NASCAR race, something called the Daytona 500. It was 2001, the year Dale Earnhardt died. It will be my last race. Here's what NASCAR means to me:

Cars going in circles, while people in the bleachers stand up (on the turns) and sit back down.

    Good food.

Waste of natural resources (gas, oil, rubber, etc.)

    Good food.

Waste of lives (Earnhardt, Roper, Irwin, Petty, Nemechek, Orr, Bonnett, Allison, etc.)

Traffic jams in the parking lot.

    No thanks, I'll take football.

  4. We gotta get to a bowl before UCF. I just looked at their remaining schedule. I say the Sir Lancelots lose to Southern Miss next week, drop to 3-3. Then they go 1-2 against Tulane, ECU and Houston (4-5) then get destroyed by UAB (4-6) before blowing out Rice to end the season 5-6, narrowly missing a bowl ...Meanwhile, we gotta worry about not being another Rutgers (who also is 3-2 in the Big East).

  5. First, I gotta thank Coach Franks for the tickets (dad-neighbor-cousin connection in Miami).

Second, I gotta concur the fans were rather rowdy, but I'm not surprised considering they are Miami.

What I'm most surprised with was the Herald stories the next day touting the fact that UM "can play with anybody." I say they can't cover the spread against USF, they can't think about beating teams like USC.

In any case, I enjoyed my trip to Miami - minus the time a strange man walked in my hotel room "checking in" when I was gone as my wife and daughter were still sleeping ...

  6. I don't want this to be a "rivalry" because that gives a connotation that both sides actual win some and lose some. I want this to be as lopsided as TCU-SMU (before the ponies broke in for a win somehow last week). However, I would like the game to be played for some sort of hardware we could rack up every year. We could win a golden hard hat to symbolize the latest "war on I-4" game and since I-4 always is under construction, what better trophy than a hard hat?
