  1. I would like to see him at a position where he could not fumble . . . . . CB

Having said that he will be a QB because thats what CJL told him he was going to be and thats that. The Jim sold himself out a little bit to get this kid from Miami. (No RS year, ect.) Now we are going to have to watch him ride the pine and waste his ability. If he is going to start at QB I would recommend a sports pychlogist to help him get a grip on his nerves.

  2. I think an academic  RS season would have been good for Hill.  Give him one more year to learn this offense and have 3 years of eligibility remaining.  From what I hear the biggest obstacle to him  starting is learning the offense.

That is almost exactly what I was thinking. His head is in the way of his athletic ability. I would also like to see Grothe get his shot this fall.

  3. QB Hill cleared for this fall

Posted May 03, 2006 by Brett McMurphy

University of South Florida coach Jim Leavitt and sophomore quarterback Carlton Hill both told me that Hill has met the necessary academic requirements for the spring semester and Hill will be eligible in the fall. Hill’s eligibility had been in question because he had missed part of spring drills to take care of academic commitments.

“It’s a big relief,†Hill said. “I passed everything. I’ll be eligible. I’ll be ready in the fall.†Hill was named the starter before spring drills, but fell behind senior Pat Julmiste and freshman Matt Grothe - or behind freshman Matt Grothe and senior Pat Julmiste, if you prefer - after a disappointing spring. Now with Hill set for fall drills, it should make for an interesting battle between (in alphabetical order) Grothe, Hill and Julmiste for the starting position. Leavitt has told me on numerous occassions how important the summer workouts are for his players, so it will be interesting to see what kind of shape they report in for fall drills.

So with Hill set for this fall, there is only 122 days remaining until the season opener against McNeese State to debate who will be the starter. Well, what are you waiting for?

I don't know if is a whew or a shucks that I am looking for at this moment. Only time will tell if C Hill can make the most of this year on the field.

  4. He is with a team and will be close to his ailing mother ... his head will be clearer being able to see her more often instead of calling her ...

This is the only reason this deal makes sense. To sign so fast with the Bucs a team with a 2nd year, high draft pick, productive back and MANY other backs they have shown committment to in the past shows me that there were other considerations. Good luck Andre.

  5. Its great to hear about DR anytime. I spent 20 minutes talking to a guy from Pitt who was there for the USF win. He couldn't believe Rubin and Blackwell were out of football. A real Pitt fan will always remember those two ruining the opening of Heinz field. A Bulls fan will never be able to stop comparing other Bulls to them for eternity.

I hope DeAndrew hits on one of his opportunities.

  6. 8th. Super.

I made bold baseball predictions when we joined the Big East. So now I would like to trade my prediction in for two statements that have a real shot at being true: It will be proven that I am retarded within the next year, USF baseball will suck until the Devil Rays win the World Series.

If only we were in a baseball state with good weather year round so we could get and edge . . .

  7. Jeremy Burnett had a great spring and is one of the top four safeties in the mix (with Verpaele, Gachette and Williams) ... he's really the only senior at defensive back though ...

I hope Jeremy Burnett works out and wins a starting job. I credit some of our defenses improvement with DV redshirting last year. He missed a lot of tackles as a freshman (BTW: I do not care if he made the C-USA freshman team) and it hurt us a ton. I am sure he has made tremendous strides by now but I still would like to see some competition for his job.

  8. Hey Nuke, Phil Hartman works for FKQ.

Those are the guys that used to make up those signs we used to bring in to the games like the "Nutter Bites" one that made the paper. I interned there and they are pretty big USF supporters. Also good ties to some strong advertisers in the area.

  9. From Gregs blog (which is good today)

-- Leavitt casually mentioned an incoming class of 35 new players this fall, and when I raised an eyebrow, he confirmed the number, which means a potential eight preferred walk-ons will join the 27 players the Bulls have coming in from signing day.

We've told you about Tampa Bay Tech punter Ilia Petrov, Winter Park tackle Jacob Sims and Armwood receiver Mat Brevi, but I'm curious who the others are. The Bulls had 81 players in Saturday's game, and if you add 35 new players, that's 116, so there will be competition for the 110 spots on Leavitt's fall roster.

The buiding up is still amazing to me. It seems we have a never ending supply of youth right now. I am so excited about seeing another punter and thats perhaps the saddest thing I have ever said.
