Jose reels in another one ... starting pg for Mizzou. 5th year senior. Not going far out on a limb to say this this is definitely a good get and not a roster filler.

Where have you been? This happened 2 weeks and was already discussed at length.

Playing with a true Center (Jamille/Daniel) allows Corey and Kasean to play PF.

I don't think that CAAR's system involves playing with a true center and a PF. His system appears to be one where all players are position-less. Hence, Pryor and Walker frequently bringing the ball up the court.

He started Tobiloba four of the early games this year so I'd assume that indicated he wanted to play with a post up player but DT just not ready as a true freshman. CAAR will indeed figure it out.

He started Tobiloba but he played out on the perimeter. His baskets usually came on pick and rolls. I think that his time was cut short due to defensive liabilities.

Don't you fill out a roster with players you think will complement what you already have?

Not necessarily. If you have trouble getting the players you want, you may have to go with some players you don't necessarily want just to get a full roster.

Many have complained about how many players we had this year that were not good. Yet, when anyone criticized them when they were first recruited, the answer was often about trusting Jose. I believe coaches, including Fernandez, will not always get the players they want. But at the same time, they need to get a full roster. I don't think that we can assume that every recruit is a good recruit.

That being said, if Piper is filling the role that Gonzalez had, it may be an upgrade.

Primarily, because Jose Hernandez must thinks she's a good get and has visions of how she'll complement what we have .... but also, based on stats, she'd have been top 3 in rebounds and blocks per game on this team, averaging 21 minutes a game. That appears pretty good to me.

Or maybe it has more to do with filling out the roster. Is she a replacement for Gonzalez to play the same position as Brito?

Looks like a good get ...... also glad we're not losing Jose Hernandez.

Why do you say she is a good get? I am unsure about this one because I don't see how she complements what we already have. Is she a good wing player? I don't know.

Men's basketball picked to finish 9th in conference. Ain't happening!

My bold predictions for the Bulls this year:

    1. They will win at least 20 games.

    2. They will finish in the top 3 in the conference.

    3. They will upset FAU.

    4. They will either go to the big dance or the NIT.

@flsportsfan83 After the early losses, you were making fun of me every chance you had. How bout them apples?

Any player entering the portal as an undergraduate and having previously transferred to a Div 1 program would have sit out a year. So, if Kasean did not earn his degree, he would have to sit out a year since this would be the second time transferring to a Div 1 school.

This brings me back to Malique Ewin. Why did he not stay at USF? And why did he go to junior college instead of another 4-yr school? If he had a change of heart, and according to rules, the short transfer to USF was considered official, it would explain why he played at junior college. If his GPA was not high enough for USF, it could also explain why he went to junior college. So, if his reason had nothing to do with not wanting to play at USF, do we have a chance of picking him up again?

By the way, Malique won a ton of accolades this past year, including player of the year, all conference team, defensive player of the year, newcomer of the year, and more. Dude averaged 15 ppg, 9 rpg, and 3 bpg..... in 16 minutes of play per game.

Strictly pulling an answer out of my ***, I'm thinking the JUCO route wipes that out ...

Dulcy got a lot stronger going into her last season. Hopefully M can do the same and be more dominant on the boards. Starting and playing 30 minutes (and more against starters from the other team) is a bit different than coming off the bench in short spurts. We'll definitely need some bigs. Isn't there a big coming in from Bulgaria? Or is that the following year?

I think you said it in a previous thread that she will probably not be a "big." She looks more like a wing.

  11. I am guessing that if Bulls fans had to take a quick guess on which player had the highest 3-pt% this year, most would say Blasigh. Romi actually had the highest percentage at 34.6%. Not only did she shoot well from deep, but she had a great all-around season.

In addition to the leading the team in 3-pt%, she led the team in scoring, blocks, and steals. She was also second in assists and third in rebounds.

  12. Of the nine players that we know we currently have next year, Mputu is the only big. I am guessing we will add others in the next couple months. If she is the starting big, it would be an upgrade at this position. Mputu had a 57% FG%. That is 12 % points higher than Evelien's, who missed a lot of easy shots around the basket.

If she had finished with enough attempts, she would have finished second in the conference in FG%. Last year, Dulcy led the conference at 58.6%. Think about that. If M'putu had the minutes that Evelien had, a lot of the close losses we had this year might have been wins.

She also shot 77% from the FT line, albeit on 13 attempts.

So, Bulls fans should feel comfortable to know that we should be better at the position next year. Add this to Sammie's return, an improved Levy and Blasigh, and a massive upgrade at point guard in Dembele and Thompson, perhaps the best two at the position ever at USF, and you have a team that will be tough to beat. Any other good players we pick up will just add depth to a very talented roster.

  13. Why leave if you are going to have your best roster ever next year? I called it for the men's team this year. I am calling it for the women's squad next year. Next year's squad will be a force to reckon with. Let the hype begin!

Depends if you can afford to live in Coral Gables or some of the nicer areas  of Miami it is nice which he would be able to easily afford .

Also depends on other unknown (to us) factors, such as an ailing parent or other family member that he wants to be closer to. Maybe the place that sells the best bourbon is located in Miami.

I agree, except it will be very difficult for anyone leading Miami WBB to even win the ACC title. Much more competitive league with Louisville, Notre Dame, NC State, Va Tech, North Carolina, Syracuse, FSU and Duke all very good this season.

I would not say it will be more difficult if he takes most of the players with him. Next year's squad will be one of his best, if not the best. And he likes to schedule Power 5 teams; so, he would be going into an ideal situation for him.

  17. My concern would not be his leaving; it would be how many of the current small roster would go with him. We have a small talented group of players that could make a deep run in the tourney next year. If some/all of them leave, that would be troubling.

True. I hadn't really followed the women's team this year and just read it on the board, so it was easier to swallow. The women's team has been so consistent where NCAAT as of late has almost become a norm. And I guess if you are an elite team its easier to refuse a NIT bid

But I think for the two major sports; football and men's basketball you take whatever post season play you can get.

However, if there comes a day where we refuse a NIT bid for men's basketball, it would probably mean that we have gone to multiple NCAAT, and at that point us refusing a NIT bid will become easier to swallow as well.

Well, if a team does not have players to play because they've put their names in the portal or the coach knows that many of them would enter the portal, I imagine they would want to opt out so that they can focus on rebuilding their roster with the best players available before other teams got the chance to compete.

I imagine that was the issue with the women's team. Incidentally, in his post-game presser yesterday, CAAR heavily criticized coaches for opting out of the NIT. He may have thrown CJF under the bus without realizing it.

  19. I have heard people say that Kasean Pryor reminds them of the Birdman. The first time I saw Pryor, he reminded me of actor, Ron Perlman. And when I heard Pryor speak for the first time (yesterday's post-game presser), I was very shocked. I was not looking at the screen when he started talking; and because I did not recognize the voice, which was very deep, I looked at the screen and saw him moving his mouth. Man, was that unexpected! And his voice is similar to Perlman's.

If you don't know who Ron Perlman is, here is a young photo:
