  1. To read some of these comments and think I don't know what this program would do if it was actually P5. There are high schools that have bigger average attendance that USF.  A school with no money to hire or fire anyone in the modern era. Yet, the blame is always on the coaches and not these players. I warned you after the spring game that this team has very little talent. Just think that if CO and BK was were full time starters. Might have won 3 games all year.

Not trying to defend CCS due to the fact that he made some dumb personnel decisions. I sure would have played a lot more freshmen and still preserved their red shirts. I will also give him credit for getting rid of 11 players and 4 coaches. That is a ballsy move.

  2. Who are the coaches that were dismissed other than Gilbert and Maddox?

I am guessing DL are  Db the two...contrary to the beliefs of 4 more.

With the new transfer portal...I immediately chase 5 grads to provide leadership. Sounds bad but I would look for the academic type from P5 schools that wanted more playing time. This would help with the penalties.

I would take the same amount of jucos that have 2 to 3 years of eligibility. I would find length, speed  and size.

I would force 5 more potential problem kids out the program. For the sole reason of getting rid of potential cancer and just bad performance.

They are all the Bermuda Trangle of USF football. We would probably find about half being not as good as we thought but you are right they went away quickly.

Strong has always done this and it's the reason he struggles. Watch Nick Roberts look like he has never played football in his life and not replace him is just insane. So it looks like he is dismissing 11 players from the team. I'm fine with that. I'm pretty sure he will be looking for Juco and grad transfers to replace those players. We need size and speed. The talent level on this team is below average.

He’s a corner playing safety. Blame CCS

Well both have to tackle. CcS is horsefeathers for letting him play. I think even worse he didn't let any of the FRESHMEN play that was to be redshirted. When that garbage you run out on the field looks like this....at least change the bag.

  5. I think McDoom and the Tackle from VT get two schollies. I also think that we will get two to three more transfers. Look for a few more players to be encouraged to leave the program.

Now with 6 qb's on schollie it is inevitable about the exit of BK and CO. Even if you move McCloud or Battle, 4 is too many for this program with so many other needs.

I also CCS is putting out feelers for grad transfers or Juco lb's, Ol's, DL and DB's that will have an immediate impact or can at least play right away.

We all said that we need a major talent overhaul... This could be a piece to the puzzle. Would provide length and size.

His grade improved nearly 9 points since HS. This is the kind of athlete that could really provide immediate help to a group that needs a makeover in the worst way. Hoggins was solid, Wilkins was spotty this year...Hampton, Sanders were young and spotty. Thomas was meh. We need physical player who can tackle in the open field. I like that CCS is going after impact players with experience in this class. You see size and speed in Burnette and Clemmons.

Even though his crystal ball says UK... Strong is masterful in recruiting and the kid is from Tampa. Selling immediate playing time will be the factor.

I'm very much looking forward to "Florida transfer Burnett" being said every time he makes a play.

G5 life is not easy...but we need lots of help in the secondary. Hoggins is leaving...I hope Jeffery Farrar can fill that role and we are awful in open field tackling. I do like Hampton. The verdict is still out on Sanders. We just flat out need talent everywhere.

Where's the talent that calls for a 9-win season? The schedule looks like it will be tougher next year and we have a lot of holes to fill in on the depth chart. You even say so in your post.

Special teams seemed to get better as the year went on. Kicking and punting improved dramatically in the back half of the season. Our return game looks down because of Horne's two TDs early in the season but it was solid throughout the year.

I think if we can plug two holes on the OL we can do it. Really good rb group and a solid QB that can thrive if the OC gives him some help.

I am more afraid of the D.  I think Farrar should be in the nickel back... immediately play kid from UF and hope we can find 2 more transfers that are eligible immediately to step in at LB and DB. We are just that bad on that side of the ball. Strong should have put Leacock and Wall in at the end of the season. He does this stupid stuff and are loyal to dogs more than you know.

  9. A G5 school with limited resources. Efforts are being made to get an indoor practice facility.

Talent wise- there are some talent at a few positions, but over all the roster needs to be revamped.

    Immediate Needs- 3 quality OL, 3 Lbs, 4 Db's, 3 WR's.

Good shape- QB, RB... expect 3 QB;s not to be at the position next year. The roster cannot hold 6 scholly QB's and nor should it. I expect BK, CO to transfer and a position change for McCloud or Battle.

The staff needs reconstruction---- OC, OLC, SC, and a dedicated ST coach. If Strong can't win 9 next year the program needs to make a change.

I expect Strong to make room for 10 to 12 new faces that can see the field immediately....whether it be through transfers, Juco or RS players.

The team is not in good position at WR's as first believed. I am hoping McDoom can make an impact. Not sold on St. Felix. I think if Horne comes back he could really give the group a much needed boost from the slot. I am waiting on Zion Roland to step up. We really need to ready to play transfers at LB in addition to Johnston, Reavis and Boyles.

I think there were some players that should have saw the field as true freshmen that could have played in at least 4 games. Leacock, Williams, Greer, Rowland, Vincent Davis, Kirby, Stephens, Waller.

LLoyd and Carter should also be used in a H-Back position to support the run game.

The special teams were better, but still borderline horrific as the year went on. I think this team needs to spread teams out and take advantage of the talent that is on the roster...most importantly open the offense up and hold the players accountable.

  10.

After a brief stop in Kansas, a former Florida defender is returning to the Sunshine State.

McArthur Burnett, who transferred from Florida in April, announced Tuesday he has committed to USF. He played at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas this season.

A class of 2016 signee, Burnett, out of Pahokee, Fla., was rated as a 3-star all-purpose back on the 247Sports Composite. He also had scholarship offers at that time from Auburn, Florida State, Georgia and Miami among others.

At Florida, the Jim McElwain staff converted the 5-9, 174-pound Burnett to a defensive back. He redshirted the 2016 season and appeared in six games in 2017 on special teams and as a reserve defensive back. He played cornerback at Coffeyville and is now listed at 5-10, 185 pounds.

USF is on Florida’s future schedule, but not until 2022, when Burnett will no longer be eligible. In a note posted on his Twitter account, Burnett thanked UF

Based on...? Or is that just a guess?

Guess and Strong's history. He will need the numbers for a full class of his recruits. No way he will keep 6 scholly QBs.... I would think 2 or 3 will be encouraged to move on. Need the schollies for transfers that can make an immediate impact and bigger recruitd

As owner of this post, just make sure you list them all :)

Fair enough...as I learn who will not be back in the next several months.

Show me a USF football team which ever had depth and no weaknesses. I cannot think of one. Any coach who comes here faces challenges. Your point seemed to be critical of Taggart while I saw us in a better place than we had been.

That's easy...he had a team of upperclassmen. He had decent 1st teamers that didn't win the conference. The tail end of that won 10 games with the prior jrs.
