  1. No secret here, I want them to bomb so he's gone. Having Tags dooms your team to mediocrity and getting out coached about 8-9 times a season (but it's cool because message board people will blame the players and the refs)

I have no desire to see him back into some fluke 6-6 record, some boring bowl matchup against Central Michigan in the 'Farmer's Only.com St. Petersburg bowl' and another 2-3 seasons of dull, Dungy risk-averse Lovie-esque football.

  2. Hey now! Taggart didn't (insert every bad play USF made)

But he did call (insert every good play they made)

Willie doesn't kick FG's! (even if he does basically play for 3 every time they get inside the 25)

Never Willie's fault. We should go to church on Sunday and give thanks every week for the day the greatest coach of all time, and a guy who one time had dinner with Jim Harbaugh, fell from the heavens into USF's campus to punt every 4 downs.

  3. OK, 4th and 1 near the 40 2nd quarter, mobile QB, Tags channels his inner Dungy and punts, ball goes about 10 yards, Navy scores.

Taggart again every time they get near the red zone starts playing for FG's. Also on him regardless of whether they make the kicks or not.

A smart coach finally bottles up Flowers' running and makes him throw, again, Taggart has no counter when another team takes away their 3 offensive plays.

None of this is on him. Of course.

We just need to give Taggart 5 more years, so that he can get his guys and his system in place!! It's Skip's fault, right?

Go ahead and give me negative points on here.. you know beneath your eternal optimism I'm right.

  4.

Some of us expected the previous seasons to go just as they did. Those of us who could see the visible decline in talent and speed that was painfully obvious during Holtz's last season. No matter who we brought in this was going to be a 4 year rebuild.

4 year rebuilds are 3 seasons too long. It's not that hard to win with superior talent to teams like UCONN. Unless you punt on 4th and 1 from the 40 like this as* clown just did.

  5. This is silly. Taggart may be the best football mind of ALL TIME.

I would concur, although it was said in another way, that Alabama coordinator job > USF HC job right now. Kiffin's ego might cause him to listen to any HC offers, but Kirby Smart would laugh at USF, stay at Bama and sit by the phone waiting for UGA to call (I don't pull the 'I know a guy' stuff, but in this case.. well I know a guy who knows Smart, and said that is exactly what he's been doing)

I have no problem going the high profile coordinator route, but I would have loved to see Chad Morris here, and maybe it's too early, but SMU somehow looked worse than they did last season.

But when Taggart wins out (and that is FACT- because they have turned the corner!) this will all be a moot point. I for one already booked my Fiesta Bowl trip today to watch them play.

  6. Ok maybe we're arguing semantics. Improved? Yes. But again I put the blame on Willie for how poorly they were playing the past 2 seasons, so I'm not readyto throw him a parade because they look competent again, with a lot of help from Tom Allen's defense and an order from higher up that they ditch his semi-pro style offense.

But turning a corner would be more like they are without a doubt on their way to becoming a top team in the AAC, and right now, after a couple of games against some of D1's bottom feeders I'm nowhere near ready to declare that as fact. All I've seen from Willie is that he's now getting out of his own way against those teams and letting the significant talent advantage take hold. Those were basically every win Skip got here too, only to be out coached by any team that was close to, equal or better talent wise than USF.

Let's just pump the brakes on locking Willie up long term, declaring them "on the right track" or booking our fiesta bowl tickets just yet.

  7. In my mind, he's already saved his job; the program has turned the corner. It's just now a matter of getting the results (the wins).

I can't see how the wheels would just come off now.

But pragmatically speaking, get to a bowl with 6 or 7 wins and he comes back. No bowl, we need a new direction.

What corner? That instead of being 1 of the worst 10 teams in D-1, they can now beat bottom 10 teams?

  8. You don't extend the guy because he himself has lowered standards here so far down that 6-6 seems like progress. It's only progress compared to his previous awful coaching jobs, which should not be ignored. Leavitt would have gotten canned for 6-6, slapped player or no. He goes 5-7, hey, way to finally beat a few teams you have a clear talent advantage over, but see ya. 6-6. Ugh. This is my doomsday scenario. Just "not awful" enough to stay, but not really giving any hope that they'll be better than a mediocre team in a bad conference either. I'm not going to freak out because UM and UCF have openings. That happens every season.  Teams fire guys. I'm not pulling a Woolard and locking a guy up over a non-disaster season out of fear of what other teams are doing. That's why we're stuck w Willie now, because they are stuck with Skip's god awful contract.

  9. The 3 game winning streak is just killing you, isn't it ...?

A bit.. I still feel like long term they need to move on from Willie, and the offense still looks like I'm playing someone in madden who has 3 plays that work, and are running them over and over...

I am glad they are winning games, but these are teams they should absolutely beat 9/10 times each, and I am not going to stand up and clap at the end of this season if they are 6-6, just because Willie lowered the bar so low for himself that mediocrity is now rewarded instead of shamed.

  10. We have beaten FAMU, Syracuse, UCONN, and SMU. A little early on the "real" talk, but this team is once again better than the year before. We will see just how for real we are with the rest of the games on our schedule. I am waiting for a good defense to come at us with a good game plan that basically dares Taggart to throw the football every down because they refuse to get beaten by the run game.

This. I see SMU rushing 4, dropping 7 back, then watch Flowers drop back, MAYBE make 1 read then take off with nothing but green grass ahead of him for at least 10 yards, and while I don't mind it, I think "what on earth is SMU doing? have they never watched USF play?"

Man up on the WR's, put 7,8 guys in the box, stay at home, and dare, absolutely dare Flowers to try and throw. Odds are he still tries to run or does his patented 'get out of the pocket and then chuck it out of bounds" throw. But to respect him like he's...a respectable passer, and drop back and let him get you for 200 yards rushing instead.. I just don't understand how people paid to do this fail to see in scouting USF what I feel a lot of armchair guys could see in about 5 minutes.
