Another reason we need out of this ****** conference.

I’m firmly against our fanbases’ culture of pooping where we sleep like that.  The AAC is an underrated conference in basketball, and would be a three big league this year if they had collectively done a better job with ooc scheduling.  The NET would be 15 spots higher for almost everyone in the conference.  More importantly it’s still the best football conference available to us right now and it needs to stay that way.  There is nothing to be gained by degrading it when it’s already in a vulnerable state after just getting raided.  The mwc is strengthening with former p5’s joining them and they have a basketball advantage, somehow.

Doesn't mean anything for the standings, but the baseball team needs to get back on track and win the series vs the Tinmen.  Tonight we have Hunter Mink on the mound.  He's looked really good so far.  Need to win Game 1, goes a long way in winning the series normally.  Tinmen are 6-0 but really haven't played anybody.  We are 4-3 and really haven't beaten anybody good.  The losses are all quality losses, but sooner or later you have to win some of these.  Tonight would be one of those.

    Go Bulls!

All the teams they’ve played were in regionals last season.

  3. KJ is a very good qb, that Arkansas offensive situation was atrocious this year, not surprised he left.  I don’t think his addition has any bearing on Timmy as he was their backup qb.  I actually like Timmy’s game and think he could start on a lot of teams, I’d bring him back as qb2-that’s solid.

The latest for 2024 and 2025 is

    The top 5 Conference Champions

7 at large. So basically if you aren’t in Top12 in ranking you aren’t getting an at large.

    What this leads to is

SEC/BigTen and ND basically taking those 7 at large.

The chances of the ACC or Big12 having another school outside their champion in Top 12 is minimal.

Another reason that makes ACC schools paying a big exit fee for a similar media deal in B12 to also compete for one CFP spot there, not a real good decision.

The Big 12 is going to have multiple teams in the playoffs each year, don’t be silly.  Even in a down season this year with a bunch of new g5 call ups they finished only slightly behind the Big 10 in the Massey composite rankings and would’ve had two teams.  That’s a quality/deep league that’s getting better with the PAC additions.  I’m not trying to be a naysayer but I think it’s important to be realistic.

    1. The ACC will pay out more money than the Big 12 over the next decade, even without their top teams because ESPN can't rework the contract just because the composition of the conference changes -- as long as the conference remains above 15 teams.  The ACC network will continue to grow revenue as it expands westward thanks to SMU, Stanford, and Cal, plus when the Big 12 contract expires they will face the same stark reality the Pac 12 faced - they are not worth the money they think they should get.   So the Big 12's next contract will not be all that meaningful.

    2. Also, the GOR will not "open up". The addition of three teams actually made this even more certain - there will not be 10 votes to disband the GOR and no court is going to throw it out.  Thus, the few schools leaving will be paying a ton of money to leave.  Louisville, Va Tech, Pitt, etc will not be able to afford the exit fees ... and they would have to give up their share of the money being paid by FSU, Clemson, etc -- which could be more than $1 billion in total.  By the time the cost to leave gets more reasonable in the 2030s, the Big 12 will have a new contract that will be on par with the ACC so even in 2032 or 2033 there won't be any real incentive to leave.

You can forget the Big 12 getting any current ACC team.

I appreciate the thoughtful response, I’m afraid there’s just too much wishful thinking to come to the conclusions you have though.

You don’t know the acc will earn more than the Big12 over the next decade.  The Big 12 currently gets more and they will be able to go to market (again) by the time the supposed inflection point is reached where the ACC was scheduled to earn more.”; this isn’t ’in ‘32-33’’, they will be back in negotiations in 2029-30. The Big 12 has shown the ability to secure a lucrative deal in tough economic times already, something only two other conferences have done.  Further, they have put multiple schools into the playoff since they negotiated that deal which not only gives them even more money ‘than scheduled’ but also gives them credibility to the tv partners for another raise they most assuredly will get.  Let’s not forget that since you brought up the acc ‘growing revenue’ by adding the dregs of two zombie conferences that the Big 12 actually added viably positive revenue generators in new markets as well, far more so than the acc did.  Let’s now tackle the elephant in the room: basketball.  They’ve already cemented themselves as the runaway best conference there and are looking to break off into its own package deal, they’re already playing in Mexico.  They are going to get paid.  They’re probably going to be playing international exhibitions and getting paid for it.  They are so much more forward thinking that it’s borderline irresponsible to assume the acc will be better off.  Multiple schools in the acc will want that action beyond those that join the sec/big 10.

I concede your point the GOR may not open as easily with the three new additions.  I’m not sure that’ll matter in another 7ish years though.  I’m certainly not confident like you are.

Why leave when next year there are crap tons of playoff spots.  Ain’t getting snubbed from the ACC next year with a 12-0 record.  Prolly not even with an 11-1 record.

The simple answer is money.  In multiple ways, not just getting more money moving to X conference.  There’s consolidation happening and fewer partners willing to buy.  There’s a lot of fat to trim in the acc, more than the pac had.

I don’t think there’s going to be a crap ton of playoff spots imo.  The acc is probably going to be a one bid league most years, even with Clemson and FSU still members.  The other three leagues are going to take 10/12 of the spots every year while the acc, mwc, and aac fight each other for the other two spots.  This is until they renegotiate the playoff structure again.

Can't leave until they have a destination... and the Big 12 will not be one of them.

You’re saying schools like Louisville and VT would rather stay in an acc without Clemson, fsu, unc, and Virginia than go to a better conference that gets paid more money? We literally just saw this happen to a historically stronger conference than the acc, what’s driving you to think a different outcome will result from the same situation?

The moment the GOR opens up the only OG acc schools left will be the ones the other three conferences don’t pick up. I won’t venture to guess who goes where at this point but we now who will be left behind.  The big 12 absolutely is a part of the equation.

The actual "breakaway" was when the XII offered membership, only 3 years ago. Your comment was, "the breakaway we should’ve been a part of years ago". That wording, to me anyway, indicates a lot longer time ago than just 3 years. If you had indicated it was when the 3 from the AAC were pulled up, not that much to disagree on.

It feels like semantics either way to me.  Focusing on the invites (3) years ago is like taking issue with the final nail in the coffin and ignoring us digging our own grave, putting said coffin in, and getting in it.  The point was valid.

  9. 6 hours ago, Triple B said:

That was in response to a post saying we should have been part of expansion years ago, which isn't supportable. Was not about our future ...

It absolutely is supportable.  The process didn’t begin when the XII ultimately offered membership-the vetting was in 2015/16, nearly 9 years ago and only a short time after our peak performance.  A quicker or more efficient rebuild or better maintenance in the early/mid ‘10s and we’re in.

So interesting. It’s the loudest football game I’ve ever been to in my life. Now granted it was the Michigan Ohio State two years ago but I’ve never experienced anything like it. The game probably matters.

I saw penn state and Wisconsin there.  Large stadiums like that are a sight to behold in their own right.  There wasn’t a lot of culture or energy outside of the students at my games.  They also cooked their attendance, like everywhere else lol.

Tailgaiting left a lot to me desired but I did have a good time at the actual games.  I already mentioned it but if you want to see a gameday experience try a Tennessee home game, it stands out in every aspect, even against schools like Tennessee tech.

There’s no such thing as just Clemson and fsu leaving.  When they do the acc as we know it falls apart.  Sure we’ll get picked up, and enjoy games @ cal, Syracuse, WF, BC, Tulane and smu.  A step up but only slightly and with a clear door slamming in our faces from the breakaway we should’ve been a part of years ago that we’re on the wrong side of.

  12. The PAC is dead, there’s not going to be any revival at this point.  Wazzu and Oregon state are just going to join the mwc in football.  They’re already reworking their schedules to fit MWC teams before then.  There’s no money for them to buyout any school from their contracts, much less offer a a tangible package due to no media deal being in place.  The only money they’ll have is ncaa tournament credits (total of 60m paid over the next 7 years), the Rose bowl contract is done with the PAC after ‘23/24, nothing there to use either.

We’ll be ripe for the picking to the ACC once they get decimated by the sec, big 10 and big 12 in ~7 years.

lol they win be lucky to win another game this season.

They looked good in both their losses, just couldn’t hold on.  Defense needs work but they’re going to be fine.

I don't think the deals have an expiration date. I know the TV Contract does. Have never heard of a conference allowing you in on a deal with a term. I could be wrong, but follow this stuff pretty close.

Who in their right mind would sign any deal in perpetuity? If there’s no tv contract there’s no conference effectively, no revenue.  No court could hold a school back from leaving in that circumstance.

I see what you are saying and we have to focus on just winning, but what conference you are in and how tough a schedule you play affects whether you make it to play offs or what bowl game you play in. We could go 10-2 in a depleted AAC and still no one would notice. There is unmeasurable benefit of being in ACC or Pac merger.

ACC yes, assuming it comes with a raise.  PAC, not at all.
