  1. Our Longhorn buddy is a short on Florida history, and facts. Boomer Sooner!!! Go Bulls You are correct. I defer to your expertise on Florida history (and facts) about the "Bulls".
  2. Bulls vs Steers, I would rather be a Bull Your arguments are rather sophomoric. The Longhorn mascot is representative of a culture in the state of Texas. There are no other colleges or universities in the country (that I know of) that have this mascot. Texas Longhorn - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia In my mind, "Bulls" is rather a generic mascot. It isn't tied to any particular state history or culture. By comparison, think about the cleverly thought out mascots for West Virginia (the "Mountaineers" ) or for Rice University (the "Owls").
  3. It's going to be funny when the USF fans come to Austin and start holding up the hand sign at the game. Some UT fans are going to think the USF fans are rooting for UT. Let’s Go Reese’s: Hook 'Em Horns | Video | Break.com Hook'em!
  4. Nope ... That's the same type release USF had and it's still just an agreement in principle until your BOR signs off on it. I think "Unofficially Official" is **** magnanimous of me .. Being a Longhorn Foundation member and an annual donor, two days ago I emailed our AD on why Texas chose to schedule USF. Here is the reply I received: Reynaldo, We have huge alumni bases in SE part of the country from ATL down through Fla. & coach Strong is a monster recruiter in that area. S Fla has 40k plus students & is going to be a growing power in sports. New AD there is from UCLA & is a brilliant administrator. Years after Steve Patterson graduated from Texas (undergraduate degree in business and a JD from Texas Law School), he became the AD at Arizona State University. While at ASU, I am sure he became quite familiar with all the ADs and associate ADs in the conference (Pac 10). Now Steve is back at Texas as the new AD here. It doesn't surprise me now that the connection USF's new AD's has with Steve Patterson is the major reason USF in now on Texas' future schedule. University of South Florida set to hire athletic director from UCLA - Tampa Bay Business Journal B12, here we come, baby ... I don't understand why they haven't made the B12 announcement yet. It is clearly a done deal. It's an agreement in principle only at this time ... They're waiting for our OCS announcement. Triple B, from the email response I received (as mentioned in my post upthread), one can conclude Steve Patterson (Texas AD) is friends with USF's new athletic director. It seems to me USF's AD deserves the credit for making this deal a reality. Jeebus, UT4, I fully understand that this is pretty much a done deal ... save the dotting of i's and crossing of t's ... which is what will make it OFFICIALLY official ... and that's the only silly point I was making ... and that was more of an inside joke than anything else. Thanks, though, for the background on Patterson's relationship with Harlan. Good to see the hire is paying off in that regard .... we're still waiting on the announcement of two more series like the UT one, though. Lol. Sorry, but you remind me of how some of the West Virginia fans reacted when WVU was invited to join the Big 12. Some wanted to see it in writing before they believed it was a done deal. Trust me, if we are ever fortunate enough to get an invite to the Big 12, or any other P5, I'll need to see the new conference games listed on our official schedule before I'll embrace it .... Fair enough. You guys have a great day!

Sorry, but you remind me of how some of the West Virginia fans reacted when WVU was invited to join the Big 12. Some wanted to see it in writing before they believed it was a done deal. A while back, I visited Arizona State University's message board. Some were certain that Steve Patterson was going to be instrumental in moving UT to the Pac 12 Conference. Some were certain that UT would eventually schedule ASU. When I gave them proof that these things would not happen, they got pissed off. Btw, what I found interesting in the email reply from the UT Athletic Department was how USF was described as "going to be a growing power in sports..." That made me think that UT would in favor of inviting USF to the Big 12 someday. Maybe it was just me, but that is what came across my mind when I first read it. Triple B, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I didn't intend to come off as being contradictory.

  9. We're getting paid TWICE to play them, and we're paying them ONCE to play us. They will sell far more tickets at RJS once than we will sell in Austin twice. Looks like we get the long end of the stick... It's a 2 for 1, something that this board turned its nose up at not that long ago. I assume it is your contention that a large contingent of Longhorn fans in RJS is a good thing as well? I cannot look at this as a "long end of the stick". Like I said, it is what it is. Glad we have a marquee opponent and just hope the program is back to the point where we can put a beatdown on them. "....just hope the program is back to the point where we can put a beatdown on them..." (lol). I don't watch USF football nor do I keep up with USF football. Question: Has USF ever put a beatdown on anyone?
  10. After visiting the UCF board in the past and now this board, I now understand why UCF fans talk badly about USF.
  11. I am not surprised you have been called much worse. I could have easily done the same. I looked up USF's home attendance record for 2013. Geez.
  12. Don't be such an A-hole! Our new AD is already thinking about closing in the south end zone. I have already been to UT home games where the attendance was 101,000: Video: Day in the Life of DKR Stadium « Know
  13. We're getting paid TWICE to play them, and we're paying them ONCE to play us. They will sell far more tickets at RJS once than we will sell in Austin twice. Looks like we get the long end of the stick... Since it is a non-conference game, the USF game in Austin (2019) will more likely be televised on the Longhorn Network HD (which gets national coverage on Dish Network). Looking forward to seeing some of you. I guarantee, you will enjoy the atmosphere if you haven't been to Austin yet. We Longhorns are a cordial bunch. Hook'em!
  14. Uh....no you don't!!! When you guys come to Austin, you will see real tradition in action with 102,000+ fans involved! Btw, I don't know about the tweet mentioned (on this thread) about the UT vs USF game, but here is the official announcement from UT Athletics (for Triple B ) : Texas Longhorns Athletics - Football adds LSU and USF to future schedules
  15. Um, not yet .... Here is what Texas' future schedules look like: Texas Longhorns Football Schedules and Future Schedules
  16. The Big 12 wants more exposure on the east coast. The conference will now have bowl tie-in with the Russell Athletic Bowl: Russell Athletic Bowl > Home Additionally, Charlie Strong does have connections with recruiting the state of Florida.
  17. Incorrect. That 2-for-1 series with UCF/Texas with the first game of the series set for Opening Day of UCF's BHNS back in 2007 was set up by ESPN...specifically to showcase that first game ever played on-campus at UCF with the 2005 National Champion Longhorns. UT wasn't even looking for a game in FLA but ESPN helped convince them of it (UCF agreeing to play 2 games in Austin obviously helped). No. I know for 100% this was correct. I know for sure Mack Brown (who was the head coach at UT at the time) claimed to be a very good friend of UCF's head coach. Mack wanted to help UCF open their new on-campus stadium, so I wouldn't be surprised if he had something to do with UCF being added to the UT schedule. That was a 2 for 1 series, which will end in 2017. As far as I know, that was the first time (in my life time) that Texas has played in the state of Florida.
  18. Didn't see anything official from UT in there .... and I'm not trying to bust your chops but if the only source they had is the one we've got, still may not be a done deal. The BM has been known to want to be the first, not necessarily the most accurate. What are you, a doubting Thomas? It's all over the internet. http://www.statesman.com/feed/sports/texas-adds-south-florida-to-its-schedule-in-2019/fmLbJ/
  19. "If the Big 12 were to expand to 12 teams, UCF and USF could be schools the conference might target, along with BYU. The Big 12 could benefit by moving south and east, where college football is most powerful and prominent." Texas adds South Florida to its schedule in 2019, 2022 and 2024 - Burnt Orange Nation
  20. Texas plays UCF in Austin (2017) and now USF in 2019. Looking forward to seeing the Bulls come to Austin. Has anyone with UT officially confirmed this?
