  1. Like i said in a post earlier I think he has done great with student government but I dont think he has tapped into greek yet but I understand its a process. If he can ignite the greek community as he does with the rest of the student body the student section could be even better
  2. Im going to be there because i luckily dont have to worry about the parking or the gas financially. But some people cant afford that. They cant ride the busses because they arent allowed to tailgate in any way shape or form. Therefore the people that would want to ride the busses its just not worth it to them. Allot of people just dont want to go through the trouble. (Not my opinion but the opinion of allot) Not to open the can of worms but this could be solved by an OCS lolololololololol
  3. Its not silly its ridiculous. But there are scheduling conflicts athletics has presented. Having the first four games at home defintely doesnt help. This process has to occur in the beginning of the semester and because of school during the week it can only occur on weekends. Therefore normally this process occurs on the weekend of an away game but since we dont have that this year we are forced to miss one of the home games
  4. No problem. I really enjoy bringing the student perspective to you guys. Especially for the old guys that have been out of the students shoes for a while lol
  5. Not a single one of us is happy about missing the game. We all b***h to each other about it. All of us guys and girls want to be there and I don't want it to seem as though we are making a conscientious decision not to go. Its more of its almost impossible to go and not break the rules. So its basically discouraging us from going. If that makes sense. (Thats from the guy perspective) From the girl perspective their recruitment is set up where they physically HAVE to be somewhere else other than the game which is ridiculous in a completely different way.
  6. I personally think it was the best decision I have ever made but I also understand how some people cant see the appeal.
  7. Sorry I was at dinner but Greeks are currently in recruitment meaning that we are recruiting the freshmen to join each of our organizations. First off let me say that since the hazing scandals that plagued the news a few years ago USF's greek has become one of the strictest I have ever heard of. (That is based on me having conversations with greeks from other universities and living through it myself and having to deal with some of the ridiculous rules we have) Recruitment is set up different by the genders so I will explain For the women: Last night was at the discretion of each organizations president whether they would allow their chapter to attend the game as they had recruitment at about 7:30 this morning. Some organizations presidents allowed them to attend some didnt. I would say about 50% of the chapters were allowed to go. But this saturday the ladies actually have their second to last day of recruitment on saturday. (The second to last day arguably being the most important day in their recruitment as that is when you decided which you will be joining.) The girls will start about 8am saturday and wont be done until wayyyyyy after the game finishes. So all of the ladies who are in organizations already and all of the 600 freshman girls who are going through recruitment will not be allowed to attend the game. For the men: This is another recruitment conflict and has to do with USFs harsh greek rules. We will be in recruitment by next saturday and at that point we will not be able to talk to any perspective young men looking to join a fraternity especially cant have the danger of them attending a tailgate . Therefore most of the fraternity presidents are going to bar their chapter from attending the game and tailgating in order to protect the organization from getting suspended. (I know how insane that sounds but fraternities have been suspended lately for much less). I know of a few organizations that are going to watch the games together at their respective houses instead of risking going to the game. Its just not worth going to the game and being found to violate one of the rules and make the whole organizations suffer. I can clarify if something doesnt make sense thats a really condensed version. I would love to talk to someone about the greek community partnering with athletics. Mr. Harlan has done an AMAZING job getting with student government but I feel as if he is yet to tap into the greek community as a resource.
  8. I was at the game last night and then rewatched the game on espn3 replay this morning and im just not as panicked as some people on this board. 1. I was proud to see the students section rocking. Something Im sure most of you dont know is that greek recruitment started this morning. All greeks has to be at school at 8 this morning and was proud to see how many greeks there were at the game even sticking through after the rain delay as most of us got home after midnight. (Also sidenote, Greeks will not be allowed to attend the game next week due to the rules set on us by the university so i am very interested to see the difference in the student section that causes.) 2. I completely agree that Mike White was absolute garbage until 6 minutes left in the first half. But after that I think he calmed down and played a decent game. Im not saying good, im saying decent. I dont know if it was nerves in the beginning but I think the game would have had a completely different outcome if white had made those four or five throws he shouldn't have missed early in the game. Especially that first one where he over shot andre for the touchdown on fourth and five. If that touchdown happens I dont believe it take White a quarter and a half to settle into the game. 3. Was really impressed that the team continued to fight after thor and the other offensive lineman left the game (blanking on the name) along with andre davis. I think if that had happened to this team at any point last year the game would have been over mentally for them. 4. One thing that stood out to me the most was the comeback made by the team. I wouldnt put ALL the praise on Mack but he does deserve allot of it. I think considering we were down two offensive lineman they were still able to open up holes for him was impressive considering their inability to do anything at all last year. Also i wonder how much the passing game suffered not having McFarland or Davis playing. All of this is just my own opinion but I feel some people are just blowing this game up way too much. I really do think if Mike White makes some of those throws in the beginning of the game it could have changed the whole dynamic. Now i dont want anyone to think im drinking the koolaid because by no means do I think that was a great or good win but I think for a team that went 2 and 10 last year there was a tangible amount of good to take away from the game.
  9. There was actually an article about this. I dont have time right now to find the link but I will try to find it tonight. The article was saying how the draft talent this year in florida was the lowest that most MLB scouts can remember. Therefore colleges in florida would have great recruiting classes this year. So that could possibly contribute to our recruiting class being so highly ranked. I will also say if you follow mike white on twitter you will see what he retweets from his dad. His dad has something to do with elite baseball teams down in south florida and Mr. White has been tweeting about how he isnt used to seeing a South Florida coach at the elite events and loves to see Coach Kingston down there getting commitments.
  10. Just wanting to clarify, those are just commits at this point and most, if not all, are from the previous regime, correct? Not really. I have seen at least five commitments get retweeted on twitter since the new coach came on.
  11. The admin building was updated (not renovated). And it actually looks very nice when entering the University. I am very proud of how much the school has evolved since I first went there. Now, we just need a bell/clock tower. The plants in front of the admin building where it says University of South Florida got updated with new brickwork on the front and the lettering. The admin building only got painted to match the new brick. The admin building cannot be renovated by law because it was built with asbestos. There is a rule they cant update these buildings. That is the same reason why physics and math building have been left alone. The honors college (currently in the second floor of admin) is supposed to be getting its own building on the same loop across from the library in that grassy area. Would be a great statement building and give the university the ability to attract better students.
  12. The north-east section of campus is protected wetlands. Knew it was something. I do believe the same for the research park in the south west of campus. But I am much less sure about that
  13. Im not saying talent wise im saying culture. Our baseball team runs wild and has no discipline. He wont stand for that
  14. I think it was definitely set in motion pre harlan but since he has come around I am sure he has wanted the full rundown of all possible situations. Hence why it has been a topic of discussion recently in athletics. Also what was said above makes complete sense. If i remember correctly about a year ago there was a large donation specifically to a new tennis complex making enough room for a football stadium. only issue would be parking because the northeast of campus is protected from construction for some reason i dont remember. Side note/off topic: I was at the baseball news conference today. Look for a handful of baseball transfers.
  15. This is a COMPLETE assumption from what Ive seen/heard and I know the possibility has been debated here many time, but i think in the current athletic district. Possibly north of the practice facility. They do not want all the teams to use the selmon athletic center. Baseball Softball are supposed to get their own place with locker rooms and such down by their fields. Something along the lines of what golf has at the claw. I do believe though they want more of the selmon center for the football team. So keeping the stadium close to it would be ideal. Of course I repeat all of this is in my humble menial opinion. lol
  16. I have been reading this blog since I was a freshman and have been tempted many times to create an account (mostly to respond to smazzas craziness) but I have finally given in. I know this my first post so the credibility will be questioned people will say like link? link? link? But i have worked in athletics since my second semester freshman year, so I tend to hear things that most people are not privy to. I can say there is a plan I don't know exactly how far along it is. I caught a glimse of a black and white sketch one time of the rendering(nothing to far along at all). But I can back up what charisbb is saying because thats exactly what I have heard.
