His overall record as a head coach sucks. There are better options out there
We seem to think we don't deserve nice things. Larry Scott may end up being amazing but he has shown no proclivity for that to this point so why not continue to let him grow as a coach?

I think the answer to this conundrum is answered by the manager across the bay, Kevin Cash. The Rays gave him a unique contract that gave the Rays leverage and Cash incentive to succeed with the realization that he was an unknown commodity with upside. If you want to ensure the coach stays, maybe we backload it so the contract is more valuable later while giving ourselves the ability to opt-out if we want. That probably means we have to get an FCS coach that would relish the opportunity to come up. The money would be life changing compared to FCS and he would have more reason to sign a contract that is more weighted to USFs advantage.

Pretty sure the UF game was our last turnover on defense.
We got one last game but it had been a few games for sure

We are going to let them wear themselves down, right?

We are rivals due to location but I always felt more rivals with Rutgers and WVU. Hell, ECU feels more like a rival.

If he does take Colorado, that would be a gut punch. If we don't get him, I would hope he'd take a better job than that.

Quite the stretch. All VPMK said was he’s talked to several candidates. That’s about as vanilla a statement as he can make. Doesn’t mean he’s done talking with anyone. Doesn’t mean BTLS was right or wrong. Doesn’t really mean anything more than he has talked to several candidates, including the one everyone is clamoring for (Deion for those of you from Rio Linda)
Sorry I was kinda being sarcastic as I think Bubba is ridiculous even though they have some connection.

Does anyone really think that he break any news about where he may Coach to BTLS?
I haven't listened to him in a decade or so but if I remember Deion would appear on his show and stay with him when he was in town. Again, I don't know the veracity of the statement but maybe?

Leavitt makes the most sense as he was the one that made USF football relevant while he was here.
I'd be happy to have him back but I like retro and vintage things. But in the 'likelihood of occurring' hierarchy: a current HC in Deion Sanders is way more likely than rehiring the semi-retired coach you fired for striking a player.

The reason I believe this is true is really hurtful: we are such an irrelevant program at this point it would be nonsensical to even have rumors about us that weren't true. We just aren't a needle mover.

I agree with you. Luckily, every coach brings what Larry Scott brings at this point: hope and a wait-and-see attitude. We need someone with the extras like you said: excitement and a proven winner.
