Today's Wall Street Journal has a small article on the popularity of college license plates in the state of Florida. Here are the numbers:

UF = 60,506

FSU = 37,252

UM = 15,121

USF = 8,369

UCF = 7,835

USF has more plates than the Rays, Magic, and Lightening combined. The Bucs only have 17, 133.

Every time I am in Florida for vacation I see at least a few USF plates. Believe it or not I actaully see a few USF bumper stickers here in New Hamsphire when I am driving around...but I do miss seeing the plate.

Why would you buy a Buc's license plate.  You are giving money to support the Glazers.  Now Universities I can see but a Professional team  :o

I think the college plays are way more popular than the pro team plates is : people actually went to these colleges. Not a lot people went to the tampa bay bucs school of coaching

Correction, most of the buyers of USF/UCF plates went to these schools.  UF plates are where they wanted to go if they had completed Jr. High.

I must get my plate. And also get the truck painted green, with a oversize gold horned U draped across the hood. Drive though ucif campus to pick up there girls. It'll take a night to make them convert to the good side. Lol!

FYI, all professional sports themed plates give 55% of revenues to the Professional Sports Development Trust Fund, and 45% to the Florida Sports Foundation, which is a group that helps promote sports for youth. So, no professional teams get any money out of license plate sales.

All college plates receive plate money to go the university for academic enhancement (though who knows where that money ultimately goes).

Interestingly enough, Georgia has a specialty license plate for FLORIDA State. I saw one the other day. Neat. Apparently some states have specialty plates for other states' affiliations, if the demand is there.

I bet that 80% or more of the UM plates were purchased by people that have not even stepped foot on a college campus.

    We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
