I'm not sure that this was posted, yet.  It looks like it will be the Birmingham Bowl unless another sponsor is lined up.

good.  great. grand.  no one wants to go to the "pizza bowl".  now we have to hope it doesn't turn into something worse than the tire bowl

Well I find it interesting that the article says the bowl could come to an end if they can't find a sponsor.

I wonder what the Big East and SEC would do in that scenario?

I imagine some small bowl would love to come around and pick up the leftover teams but don't the bowl contracts typically go 4 years?

Could a bowl break a contract with a Sun Belt or CUSA conference to pick up the better teams or would a new bowl have to be created in the interim?

Just another sign of the economy.  Maybe Obama can start a federal stimulus fund for bowl games that loose sponsorship.

Good riddance to another meaningless bowl game.

Good riddance to another meaningless bowl game.

And one less chance for USF to play in a bowl game if USF has a sub-par year (7-5 or 6-6).

To me, a meaningless bowl game is better than no bowl game.

Meaningless?  Yeah, I am sure the coaches, players and most fans think these bowl games are 'meaningless.'  Some of us actually like going to Bulls football games in December.  I don't want to miss out on those extra 12-15 practices.  Do you not think it is helpful for our coaches to say, "We have been to five (six, infinite) straight bowl games," when they are recruiting?  Recruits want to know that they will get to play in the postseason, even a small time bowl is better than nothing.  Our redshirt freshmen have benefited so much from bowl practices.  Ask Syracuse's players what they are doing in December and compare that to ours.

Even if the Birmingham Bowl goes under, there will be another ready to take its place the next year, so there will always be bowl games that some self appointed, uber fans will consider 'meaningless.'

Another debate in college football with strong opinions on both sides.  If USF goes 7-5 or 6-6 with games against Soney Broook, FAU, and Western Kentucky then I don't think they deserve to go to a bowl.  I think that is true for every other D1 program as well.  This isn't little league, everyone doesn't get a trophy.  It cheapens the experience.  I went to our game over at that dump in St. Pete - it was a joke, felt like a highly attended spring practice.

That being said, the gain or loss of this single bowl will hardly signify a paradigm shift in how bowls work (which considering even the small bowls make money is highly unlikely to begin with).  So I certainly hope they pick-up a sponsor, pizza bowl was fun.

Mentioned this on the Twitter, but of USF's last four bowl games, three have changed sponsors since the Bulls played and the fourth no longer exists ...

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
