I don't think the practices in town are open to the public. Afternoon practices the next four days, then headed to Vero. Holtz won't do nearly as much two-a-day work as in previous years -- said only maybe one or two days with two full sessions. He'll have one session and a walkthrough most days ...

As always, thanks Greg.

Greg, how does this compare to his fall practice schedules at ECU?  Do you know?  Is he cutting back due to our prior year mid season collapses, or is this his normal fall routine?

If the first four practices aren't open, are you able to get an interview after each one?  Maybe some post practice chocolate milk?

I'm interested in what Greg has to say about your question KB.

I sure wouldn't be surprised if it has either something to do with the mounting injuries from over the summer or if it's more about learning the new system what with the new coaching staff (including the third OC and second new DC in three years).  This team is in desperate need of coaching stability whatever the system or coaching style is.

Attrition from the assistant coaching ranks has killed the momentum of this program.

The Tampa practices -- before and after Vero -- are open for the first half-hour, with players and coaches available after for interviews. It's a good format, given that othre state programs are closing practice entirely.

Holtz said he's never been a big believer in beating up kids physically in preseason, so he doesn't do a lot of two-a-days. He said if you want to be physically demanding, you do it in spring, when they have months to recover without missing games. I'll have to check last year's schedule and see how many two-a-days Leavitt had ...

Greg,

You might want to look 2 years back too.  If I remember correctly, CJL cut back practices last year trying to avoid the same mistake he made the previous two.

After the 1st mid year collapse, inexperience was blamed.  After the 2nd year collapse he started looking at adjusting practice schedules.

KB's right. There were less double sessions in '09, but still thought there were a handful.

What time is practice today?  Seems like he would go early to avoid the heat and the afternoon thunderstorms.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
