-- Holtz is in an interesting predicament this fall, with far more interested parties than he has remaining scholarships available. Add one more name to the list of potential late additions: Colby Erskin, the former USF receiver who is recovering from a third knee surgery but has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA.

Holtz said he met with Erskin and his father, Kevin, last week, and said that Erskin has gotten the waiver and made progress with his knee to where he can be considered as an option for a remaining scholarship. "I've got to make sure we have room -- that's the hard part at this point," Holtz said. "I told him I'm supposed to talk with him again this week."

Erskin, a former walk-on who was put on scholarship by former USF coach Jim Leavitt, would want to be on scholarship to play a sixth year. If USF cannot do that, Erskin is eligible as a college graduate to transfer and play immediately, the same way quarterback Grant Gregory did at Kansas State last fall.

Erskin played a small role in the controversy that led to Leavitt's firing in January, telling USF investigators that walk-on Joel Miller had told him that Leavitt slapped him twice in the face and grabbed him by the throat during halftime of USF's Nov. 21 game against Louisville. He also said Leavitt had his locker cleaned out after the International Bowl on Jan. 2 and threw its contents, including personal items, in a trash bin. Leavitt denied doing so, but the alleged incident was mentioned as part of USF's investigation.

We gotta do better than that.  If it's a "Holtz New Era" we really need to leave behind certain things.  Keeping Miller around is almost acceptable.  Erskin and all other conspirators ought to move on with life in areas they have seen more success.  I hope Holtz and USF in general are not pressured into offering this non-contributor a spot.

yes that network of conspirators against leavitt must be eliminated!!!!

but no... erskin shouldn't scholarship we have other players who are more deserving BY FAR.... especially mistral raymond.

one of those 'conspirators' may have been the greatest USF player to lace em up

I'm not sure why this was moved, but anyway, I guess we've gotten more sensitive in my absence.

And hatter you are right on the mark.

Erskin should not get a scholarship.

And the supposed greatest player ever ought to be scratched from the record books.  Maybe not really, but all his adoring fans should know what a weasel he is and how unsupportive of the team he truly was.

Now, this thread deserves its new home.

Not privy to Bulliever's info but from what I glean from what he's said, those teammates would be the handful that were determined that this incident lead to CJL's removal ..... and, like you, I'm curious as to why also.

I moved the thread because it is clearly related to the incident this sub-board was created for.

We've spent months getting the main board somewhat under control, and I did not want to see the fighting start all over again.

I've already made my comments on the possibility of Erskin's reinstatement in the other thread.

I guess I am out of the loop on this whole issue, but are you talking about a QB who just graduated?

He was undermining and talking crap about BJ Daniels from the get go - long before he descended into the depths of pitiful uselessness and took aim at his head coach - of course at the urging of his reporter friend.

Good reason not to give him a schollie.

Speculation.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
