Everyone, but especially you younger, newer-to-the-program guys should read Jim Louk's excellent piece on the first year's road trip experience.  Was this really just 13 years ago- http://www.gousfbulls.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=7700&ATCLID=204960346

It's things like this that fans of Florida, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, etc. don't get to have. When those that were around for 80-3 say "our team" it has a different meaning than most other football fans.  I don't know that I'd trade.  Good article.

Great read.  I really enjoyed it, though I don't envy what Jim had to endure during those early games.

Wow.  Don't think I realized just how lowly some of those early schools were.  Two showers seems kinda ridiculous even in a high school locker room.

We lived in GA back then and went to both the first home game (Kentucky Wesleyan) and first road game (The Citadel) ever.  That can never be taken away from those of us that attended both.

nice read.

i try to explain to people when they talk about USFs fan base.  most of these "big schools" or 95% of other BCS schools have grandfathers who went to school there and went to football games.

we have kids who are still in high school and were born before USF had a football team...let alone a football team that anyone paid attn to.

we will be a good program (we are in too big of a media market and have too great of high school talent around us not to be)

but it might take another 13 years before we win a national title.  either way ill be there at the games. and loving every win and hating every loss...no matter what.

Cosign all of this The USF football program is still just a baby that's getting it's legs.  It will be great watching the program grow up in the years to come.

I drove to every road game that Inaugural Season.  Still have ticket stubs.  What memories.  The Cumberland game was hilarious.  We walked up and down the sidelines like players...literally passing through the team on the sidleines...young excited Bulls saying 'Hi' to us as we walked by during the game.  When we asked where the ticket booth was, it was not finished being built yet. When we got our ticket it was just a stub like a roll you would use for a raffle.

Great memories from that first season.

For those of us that went to the OLD Sombrero for 80-3 I salute you!  When people say they've been fans of a team all their lives I say I've been a fan since inception!  We are young and poised to do great things in near and distant future!  As a green jacket member I am proud to say I am a USF Bull!!  13 years seems like only yesterday and cant wait for the next 13 and many more!

GO BULLS!!

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
