have any conference leaders given any thought to how their bowl tie ins will be affected?

the big 12 has several bowl game agreements including one with the big east. im thinking if conference realignment stops as it is (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=5282178, http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=5283314) today minus one or two more movements, things wont be that greatly affected. but things could get real chaotic if this continues.

no matter what i think the consolidation of power is bad news for the big east. think about 4 bowl eligible (hypothetical) teams in the big ten vs the big east:

Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska

Cincinnatti, Pitt, WVU, UConn

Which teams, given the same record, do you think are going to the better bigger and more lucrative bowls?

I think they have thought about Bowls a lot; insinuating that they haven't seems silly. You are missing the whole point about mega conferences and bowls. It's not so much that one conference may have stronger teams and get better bowls because of it... it's more of that a few conferences will have ALL of the teams and if they just said "we don't want to do your bowls, we'll do something else. Thanks for playing." they could do so. It puts a lot of negotiating power in the hands of the teams and conferences and out of the hands of the Bowls. It's way easier to shun 8 or ten teams versus 16 teams. There definitely will be some lopsided deals when it comes to renegotiation.

Not sure the conferences would really be able to dictate terms THAT much -- in fact, I don't really think the power has shifted away from the bowls.

Bowl committees can still play one conference off another to get better deals ... and without a Big 12 conference there will be a number of bowls having to sign new deals.
