I think the Mountain West has more to lose than even the Big East. If some of these rumors are true and lets say the Big Ten takes Nebraska and Mizzou. Then the Pac-10 turns around and takes Colorado and Utah. That would leave 3 slots for the Big 12 to replace. Who would they take?

What about TCU, BYU and Air Force.

If that happens that would leave only 5 schools...UNLV, SDSU, Wyoming, New Mexico and Colorado State.

Their version of the C-USA out west is the WAC. So they could possibly have to add 4 teams from the WAC? Ok, BSU.....um Fresno State.....ok if that happens the MWC is done.

If there is a large shift in the conference landscape, the MWC will have no choice but to combine with the WAC. If they lose 3-5 teams, together they'd have a 12-14 team conference.

If the MWC loses Utah only, they could still get the 7th BCS bid. If they lose TCU or BYU also, kiss that BCS bid goodbye.

The scary scenario is that if the Big East dissolves for football, and then the MWC is weakened and doesn't get it's bid, you're basically going to have 5 conferences who have easy access to championships, and depending on how much raiding goes on, the Big 12 could lose its bid too, though I feel they could restock with enough teams to keep it (even if they somehow lost OK, OKST, TX, and A&M to the SEC - in a far-fetched scenario).

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
