USF men's soccer coach George Kiefer, who led the Bulls to a Big East championship and the NCAA Elite Eight in 2008, has signed a four-year contract to keep him at USF through the 2013 season.

"George has done a terrific job in building one of the premier men’s soccer programs in the Big East and country," athletic director Doug Woolard said in a statement.

Kiefer, who has a 93-47-16 record in eight seasons at USF, actually signed the deal in December, after the Bulls finished a 14-4-3 season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The new contract, released to the Times on Tuesday, has a starting base salary of $90,000, a 50 percent raise from his previous base salary of $60,000. The salary escalates gradually to $120,000 in the fall of 2013.

Seriously though, soccer is not popular within the US. Football is not popular outside the states. It's an odd dynamic really, but one that does exist. I fully stand by my statement of "it's freaking soccer" with regards to popularity on a US CAMPUS.

Since ere talking about soccer, I personally can't wait for the world cup. Thats one hell of a tournament, lets see if soccer mania picks up for a month or 2 from that.
