St. Petersburg Bowl not expecting USF back

"It probably will be UConn or Rutgers. USF still has a chance, but the conference doesn't like people to go to the same place twice in a row," said Brett Dulaney, executive director of the St. Petersburg Bowl.  "We'd love to have USF. They brought a bunch of people, but I don't think the conference wants to do that."

...

If USF isn't in St. Petersburg, their most likely match is the Papajohns.com Bowl in Birmingham, with the International Bowl in Toronto possible but logistically unlikely.

If the Big East does not want to send the same team to a Bowl game 2 years in a row, then wouldn't the Meineke Car Care Bowl be another option?

These bowl scenarios are confusing if you don't win the conference.  Who wants who.  Who went where last year.  At least we aren't going back to the Trop.  Didn't really enjoy that game except for seeing the white helmets.

Meineke would be an option, but it's a higher tier than the bottom three bowls -- payout is like $500,000 more. So presuming Notre Dame isn't in Jacksonville and there isn't a second Big East team in the BCS, Charlotte will get the No. 3 pick in the league. They had West Virginia last year, so they might be hesitant to get them again -- my guess is that it's probably the Rutgers-West Virginia winner.

Pizza Bowl is the only place I would be able to go to this year.  I'm getting laid off next week so money is going to be tight for a while.

I've got people up there so I'd only need enough money for gas and the game tickets.  I can eat PB&J and drink water if it means that I get to see my Bulls play.

West Virginia vs. UNC sold out the Meieneke Car Care Bowl last year (and most of the fans were WVU fans).  If the Meineke can get WVU, they will do it.

That goes against the notion of the Big East not wanting a team in the same bowl the next year?

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
