Interesting. Pat Forde did it by APR scores a few weeks ago...Didn't turn out too well for us.

Uh, not really...

13th in the top 25 and ahead of every last place team in other conferences, which just means the Big East is doing very well.

Oklahoma is last in the Big 12 and last in the top 25.  I think we'd be ok if we were in their position.

Grad rates are misleadin, which is why the NCAA went to the APR which can also be misleading.

To note USF was last in the top 25 for the APR.

Lousy graduation rates.  Does anyone know if these rates are getting lower or are they rising?

Depends on the school. USF's has risen I believe.

That's an unbelievably low number, especially considering that (I guess) less than 30% of the players actually start a game during their whole career at the school.

Not that 56% is great, but this is somewhat misleading. These grad rate numbers were mentioned in another espn article: http://myespn.go.com/blogs/bigeast/0-1-313/Big-East-football-graduation-rates.html, where it goes on to tell you that the numbers reflect student-athletes who entered between the 1998-99 and 2001-02 school years. The rate of graduation is directly related to the type of student who was being admitted at that time. If you recall, we were in C-USA until '05...and our numbers are on par with other schools from that conference (kudos to Cincinatti though). Since entering the B-East, our standards for incoming students HAD to go up to match the rest of the conference. Whats more, in '06 the decision was made for member schools to no longer admit non-qualifiers. Admitting better students usually correlates to a better graduation rate by itself.

Obviously every school needs to get better at graduation rates, but it would be more helpful for us when numbers come out in a few years for the most recent classes.
