Plantation’s Emilien Sets Visits

September 22, 2008 by Luke Stampini

Plantation senior safety Vladimir Emilien went down with a knee injury at the Miami Nike Camp in March. Emilien, one of the top safeties in the 2009 class, thought his season was over when he underwent ACL reconstructive surgery in late June. There is a glimmer of hope doctors may release Emilien to play late in the season or during the playoffs.

“I’m way ahead of track, that’s what the doctors tell me,†said Emilien. “I just don’t want to risk coming back too early, so I’m trying to get it as strong as possible now. The whole thing (rehab) is going real fast for me.â€

It will be interesting to see if Emilien’s knee can heal fast enough for a return in 2008. He is able to run straight ahead, but is only doing minimal lateral movement as a precaution while his knee continues to strengthen. While the 6-foot-2, 195-pound safety rehabs, he has set up a few official visits.

“I have Wisconsin scheduled when they play Penn State on October 10th. Michigan, I go up there when they play Michigan State October 23rd I believe. I’m planning on visiting USF in the next couple weeks I hope. Also, I have a visit set for Stanford November 15th, but I don’t know if I’ll make it there.â€

Emilien, who boasts a 3.5 core GPA, will be graduating in December and enrolling in college in January. Emilien expressed why he feels it is important to enroll early and participate in spring practices.

“I want to get into the system, learn the plays and show these coaches I can play!â€

Play is exactly what Emilien can do when he is healthy. He shows a good burst on the field, covering a large amount of ground. However, Emilien’s best attribute may be the wreckless abandon he plays with on the field. Emilien is a highlight reel hit waiting to happen from his safety position.

Emilien did not want to name a favorite, but would say Michigan and Wisconsin were recruiting him the hardest. He also went on to list his criteria when choosing a school.

“First of all I have to look at the academic standpoint of the school. Second is just the environmental aspect of it, I have to be able to live there for four years. Third would be the coaching staff and how I relate to the coaches.â€

Check back with SoFLAfootball in the weeks to come to see how Emilien’s rehab and visits go.

I wonder if he'll be at the Pitt game.

“In my mind, I’m kind of like, ‘OK, excuses over'. We know what we need to do. We’ve got the right team together, and now we move forward, and we’ll evaluate and be accountable to each other, including myself, from this point forward.”
