According to Jeff Sagarin, after week 4, he has the following...

WVU 26

USF 34

UConn 35

Louisville 41

Cinci 48

Pitt 60

NC STate 68

UCF 87

Syracuse 119

FIU 156

Of conferences, Big East is in 6th place (we finished in 4th place last year according to his rankings).

CUSA is 8th place.

This tells me that USF, UConn and the BE have a lot of work to do.  The OOC losses to our conference have hurt us quite a bit....

That would be nice but I think WV might get 100 yards if they are lucky

Talk about a team dropping like a rock

My concern for Sagarin and BCS rankings is that a portion of how our rank is determined is based on the computer polls.

With the BE teams so low, playing each other won't help them move up much, especially as so many have at least 2 OOC losses.

Combine that with the fact most OOC games will be over with after this week, and it makes for a really crappy chance that we will have ranked BE teams going to bowl games....

These are the wrong rankings... for BCS purposes, use the ELO-CHESS column

WVU - 18

USF - 24

Louisville - 28

U Conn - 32

Cincy - 50

NC State - 53

Pitt - 58

UCF -86

'Cuse - 114

FIU - 153

Notice how much higher the BCS-version is than his regular version (shows you how much he factors scoring margin into his personal rankings).

Also, the predictor shows USF is a 10 1/2 pt favorite over NC State...

Jim, thanks for the post and good info.  I was getting concerned about the BE as a whole since the teams are so far away from the top 25.  This still isn't great, but certainly much better than the initial numbers I pulled from his site.

BE still has a long way to go to prove we belong.  We are having a crappy year.  Don't forget we get evaluated for competitiveness every 5 years or so.  The ACC with UM/Miami/BC/Wake/Clemson (ie traditional programs) can get away with sucking for a few years.  If the BE does that, we will get pounded on.....

Interesting.  Last year the computers loved us and the voters hated us.  Reverse that this year so far.  With those #s, and the lack of OOC games left it will be hard for us to crack the top 5 in the computers even if we go undefeated.  Solution:  Go undefeated and prove me wrong.  ;D

I hope Tennessee-Martin beats Auburn, AND West Virginia.

There are still 13 OOC games for the Big East.  If we manage to pull it together the BEast could do some good.

Match ups to move us up:

USF @ NC State

Auburn @ WVU

UNC @ UConn

The rest are all most likely wins with the exception of Cuse @ ND and Army @ Rutgirls.

We can still gain some ground.  We wont pull into the top 3, but we can definitely move up.
