Props to Alvarado

One positive thing that came out of the game on Sat was the punting job done by Alvarado.  I think he did a great job.  I am glad we kept him on board to keep punting.  He had some monsters that just kept sailing.

Sad that our punter gets props from the FIU game.  But then again, punting is usually a factor in close games.

I think that the punting was one thing that we actually did well in the game.  I can't really think of anything else.  I remember on in particular that we were inside our 20 and after the punt they were inside their 30 (I think).  I was pretty impressed.  It gave me something to cheer about in the game.

not sure how many other people saw it but Delbert was practicing into the net and his foot slipped out from underneath him and he was flat on the ground...he didn't injure himself obviously so it was pretty funny to see...at least it was one slip that game that didn't cost us yards

It is amazing to me how many people are giving props to Alvarado now..

He has been a great punter all along.  Excellent hang time and distance, on every punt.  He also has put many, many punts down inside the 10 for us in the past.

Everyone seems to forget he was brought on as a punter as that is what his skill area was in HS.  He was moved into the PK role last year after an inconsistent start. 

His punting has always been top notch, and he is a guy we can count on.

Look at how many high and crappy snaps he gets, and still turns them into great punts.  The guy is very good.

Plus he is big enough that he can actually tackle someone if our special teams lets up and someone is heading toward a run back.... 

He is an asset to our team, and always has been.

I would give him props for his attitude about losing the kicking job to Bonani

He was among the first running out there to congratulate him-- helped raise him up to celebrate-- then led the special teams core unit on the field in some sort of emotional talk just for them. It was a sign of a guy who thinks team first all the way.

I think he was more of relieved to not have to be kicking field goals. I think hes happy to now just focus on punting, which he is very solid at.
