Guest nybullsfan
Just for fun, I pulled out all the schools from Sagarin who had North, South, Central, etc in their names. Now you could argue that Southern Cal and NC State don't really belong on this list, or that UT-Martin and FAU do belong, so go ahead. LOL. 1 1 Southern California 2 7 West Virginia 3 32 South Carolina 4 37 South Florida 5 58 North Carolina State 6 65 Southern Miss 7 69 North Carolina 8 74 Northwestern 9 76 East Carolina 10 82 Central Florida 11 83 North Dakota State 12 84 Northern Iowa 13 85 Central Michigan 14 89 Southern Illinois 15 92 Western Michigan 16 98 Middle Tennessee 17 102 Northern Illinois 18 110 Eastern Washington 19 116 Georgia Southern 20 122 Western Kentucky 21 123 South Dakota State 22 129 Southern Methodist 23 137 North Dakota 24 139 Eastern Michigan 25 140 Western Illinois 26 143 Northeastern 27 144 Northern Arizona 28 152 North Texas 29 154 Eastern Kentucky 30 160 Central Arkansas 31 164 South Carolina State 32 165 Eastern Illinois 33 179 Northwestern State 34 180 Coastal Carolina 35 181 Western Carolina 36 190 Southern University 37 191 Southern Utah 38 194 Southeast Louisiana 39 203 Northern Colorado 40 211 South Dakota 41 216 Charleston Southern 42 218 Central Connecticut 43 222 Southeast Missouri State 44 232 North Carolina Central 45 234 Texas Southern 46 235 North Carolinahttp://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt08.htm

They're in directional states... Your poll is inaccurate to be claimed the directional school poll, but it is accurate to say any team with north, south, east, or west in there name. Also Florida Atlantic belongs as Atlantic would be a directional term. I'm sure there are others to add too.

Like Cal State Fullerton, or Louisiana Lafayette, or Lousiana Monroe (which use to be SW Louisiana U). All imply some regional or directional characteristic. Guest nybullsfan
Does that mean we have to add UCLA and Boston College? Where do we draw the line?

Where do we draw the line?Boston College is a NO, I would guess, because they are not a state University, and are a private catholic college. UCLA would classify, it is California in LA. Truth be told, there are about 70 or so flagship Universities that are either simply the state name, or "STATE" University ala UF, and FSU. The remainder of State Universities are all directional schools in some way, shape or form. So the easier way to classify is who's NOT to be included, then who is included.Go to Wisconsin, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Eau Claire, UW- Stevens Point...all directional, and all have good athletics in certains in their own right. UW-Milwaukee has had great basketball in the past, Stevens Point wrestling...There are probably 25 or so directional schools in California alone, Fresno State, UC- Santa Barbara...etc. But many don't have football either so that helps out.
