Okay... with tomorrow being the release of the first preseason Poll, I started looking around to see if the voters would publish their polls ... Here are some that I have found.  The #s are where they put USF...

Brett McMurphy guesses USF will be #19 tomorrow... I would guess, from these samples, USF will be higher - maybe #17...

Brett McMurphy, Tampa Tribune: #16  Link

Kevin Pearson, Riverside Press Enterprise: #25 Link

John Wilner, Mercury News: #12 Link

Kirk Bohls, Austin American-Statesman: #11 Link

Molly Yanity, Seattle Post-Intelligencer: #23 Link

Doug Lesmerises, Cleveland Plain Dealer: #13 Link

Anthony Gimino, Tuscon Citizen: #17 Link

JP Giglio, The News & Obeserver: #8 Link

Scott Wolf: #17 Link

This should interest some of you, when you start harping on why Brett isn't ranking USF higher ... from John Wilner's blog:

So for your enjoyment and edification, here are the voting guidelines, cut-and-pasted from the email got last week from the Associated Press:

* Base your vote on performance, not reputation or preseason speculation.

* Avoid regional bias, for or against. Your local team does not deserve any special handling when it comes to your ballot.

* Pay attention to head-to-head results, and

* Don’t hesitate to make significant changes in your ballot from week to week. There’s no rule against jumping the 16th-ranked team over the eighth-ranked team, if No. 16 is coming off a big victory and No. 8 just lost 52-6 to a so-so team. …

… So there you have it, folks — straight from the AP itself.

Jim, you are "the man."

Some interesting stuff and I know it took some work on your behalf.

I'm thinking JP Giglio graduated at the top of his class!

Thanx Jim !

:clap

It is interesting that by their guidelines, they shouldn't have a "preseason" vote  ;)

Again, appreciate your time in this matter Jim.

Go BULLs !!!

This guy was the first guy to put USF in his top 10 last year. Glad to see he hasn't forgotten us.

Yeah, I really like his explanation for his rankings.  He ranks preseason by how he thinks the FINAL poll will be.  Basically he predicts the national champion and how everyone's season will end up, not how good they are.

When the season starts, he throws out that poll and judges how good teams are purely based on what they've done on the field.  That's the way it should be, and that's why we were in his top 10 last year so quickly.  We had one of the best resumes in college football after we beat Auburn on the road and then WVU.

So his preseason poll is a prediction of how the season will turn out, and all his other polls are an objective (as much as you can be, I guess) judgment of what teams have done on the field so far.  If everything turned out how he expected it to go, based on how good the teams are, his final poll would be the same as the preseason poll.  Obviously things are unpredictable, but it's an interesting way to go about it.  Everyone should use his in-season method, though.

Usually comes out before 4pm.  Most weeks it is between 10am - 2pm though.
