But with increased success also comes increased scrutiny. The university and state officials recently launched investigations following a series of stories in The Star-Ledger about the finances surrounding the football team, its coach and the expansion of its stadium. Rutgers President Richard McCormick has acknowledged the university's "lack of transparency" in not revealing it used an outside vendor to guaranteed football coach Greg Schiano $250,000 in compensation on top of the $2 million contract he signed last year. Ethical questions have also been raised about Rutgers signing a contract Nelligan Sports Marketing shortly before athletic director Robert Mulcahy's son was hired to work for the firm. As the football team begins pre-season practices, bloggers have been busy debating whether Rutgers' off-field financial scandals have already overshadowed the upcoming season. – Star-Ledger http://www.footballrumormill.com/scoop.php
