The List: Big East's Top 10 Players

The Big East has been college football's equivalent of John From Cincinnati. The talent is there. The expectations are there. But the results just aren't.

The conference saw two national title hopes dashed as USF fell on its face after reaching the No. 2 ranking and West Virginia's offense disappeared as it failed to seal the deal in the regular-season finale against Pitt.

Despite an inability to meet expectations, the Big East isn't likely to follow John's example and get cancelled. Plus there's still a ton of talent to fawn over. Here's The Senior's picks for the conference's top 10 players.

...

2. George Selvie, DE South Florida. The converted center has become one of the premier pass-rushers in the country. He came out of nowhere to earn first-team All-America honors last season with a FBS-leading 31 1/5 tackles for loss and-- 1/2 sacks (second nationally).

Like White, Selvie is a little on the light side. He's tried to add pounds to his 6-foot-4 frame in the offseason but only managed to add 10 pounds, putting him at 245. Still a way away from the 265-270 range that could make him unstoppable but considering the havoc he caused in '07, it's a minuscule knock against this NFL talent.

...

9. Matt Grothe, QB South Florida. His Web site is a little lame, but he gets some serious props for having his own theme song "G to tha R-O-T-H-E!"

The junior quarterback has led the Bulls in rushing the last two seasons, including 872 yards last season and his 2,67o passing yards put him the company of Florida's Tim Tebow and Central Michigan's Dan LeFevour as the only Division I-A players with at least 2,500 yards passing and 850 rushing.

His completion percentage did drop dramatically from '06 to '07, going from 63.7 percent to 59.2, which will have to improve if USF is to continue to solidify itself as a contender.

LOL... WTF is a yard barker anyway?

All I have to say is this:

1. Pat White, QB West Virginia. When he's healthy, he's  Tim Tebow on speed. White passed for 1,724 yards and-- touchdowns last season and ran for 1,335 yards and -- more scores. But when he's not healthy ... well, that's the biggest issue with the 6-foot-1, 192-pounder.

How about this punk actually finish his articles and have them edited before publishing them?  Then he can rank on someone else's site.  ;-)

haha yeah true i'm more than aware about that situation.

like everyones saying its either for motivation or just completely obsolete seeing as its the first deph chart released 16 days before game time.

i couldn't see us starting ford against tenn martin anyway

but anyway not trying to get off topic it was just a speculation that we all hope comes true.

selvie is a straight beast

#2 puts #1 on his back several times until #1 leaves the game with season ending injury therefore #2 becomes #1 by default.  :D

Pat White is good but not #1.  There are at least 3 other players that should be #1 - though he is a top 5.  One From USF, one from Cincy, one from Pitt easily.  This writer is on crack.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
