'09 USF-Miami game now Thanksgiving week

The long-anticipated USF-Miami football series re-starts with a five-year run in 2009, but originally wasn't scheduled to become a Thanksgiving-week tradition until a year later. But on Thursday, USF announced that the 2009 game in Tampa will be moved from September to late November, setting it up as a holiday rivalry game to go alongside the annual Florida-Florida State game.

The first meeting is now set for Nov. 28, 2009, at Raymond James Stadium, with the series continuing each Thanksgiving week through 2013, alternating sites each year. By having the game in November, the Bulls likely lose a window for a bye week before the regular-season finale, as they'll have in 2008 the week before finishing the season at West Virginia.

that will clearly be the biggest crowd ever for a USF game.  but i wonder how it effects the student turn out since a lot of students will be home for the holiday.  as long as its saturday night i think most will just come back early.

09 Miami Game Moved To Thanksgiving

Courtesy: USF

Release: 07/03/2008

TAMPA – The University of South Florida and the University of Miami have mutually agreed to move their 2009 football game to Thanksgiving weekend.  The change shifts the Bulls home game from the previously scheduled date of Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 to Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009.

The change means that the duration of the five-game series will be played over the Holiday weekend, creating a marquee match-up of instate powers during the same time frame from 2009-2013.

The five game series with Miami is currently scheduled for the following dates:

Nov. 28, 2009 – at USF

Nov. 27, 2010 – at Miami

Nov. 26, 2011 – at USF

Nov. 24, 2012 – at Miami

Nov. 30, 2013 – at USF

All future schedules and dates are subject to change.  Game times will not be announced until, at the earliest, the spring prior to the upcoming season.  The ABC/ESPN body of networks through their agreements with the BIG EAST and ACC, hold the rights to set game times within a six or 13-day window during the football season.

Hopefully, the USF-Miami TG series will be continued beyond 2013, as we have left dates open for them.

I wonder why we stopped showing 2016, when we supposedly play the Indiana return game in Tampa. I presume that is still scheduled, although I'm not all that certain that Indiana will actually return that game so far in the future.

Come back early?  Hell, just skip turkey day alltogether and fry one at the tailgate... make it an entire weekend event!  If the students don't show up for this game, why bother going to any of them?!?  This will be big time.

Is it too early to book a hotel in Miami for 2010 and 2012?

Well there will be a lot of USF Bulls at Dolphin stadium during those years because many of us will be home for thanksgiving.

As it stands now, all of the USF/UM dates are the Saturday after Thanksgiving

Helps to establish a tradition that will have a good chance of continuing.

Another good move by DW & staff.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
