It’s because of the tv contracts. They are predicated on conference play. If you don’t play those you don’t get the TV $.

It is amazing how this virus selects the winners and the losers based on nefarious reasons, at least it will peter out in November, I have grown tired of this.

Conference only schedule makes it very difficult for teams not in the ACC, Big 10, Big 12, SEC, Pac 12 and Big East to get in the tournament. 

Side note: the home non conference schedule is terrible anyway.
