Have the freshmen taken redshirts yet?

i'm looking at the roster, and i know that carlton hill is a true frosh that wont take a redshirt, but what about the other freshman like matt grothe?

by the way, is grothe the highest rated QB recruit on our roster?  i know carlton hill is more of an athlete, but was grothe more highly touted than julmiste?  i just want to know if we've got something to look forward to after Pat "No Accuracy, No Touch" Julmiste is outta here

I think all the qbs were much higher rated than julmiste.  Hill and Denson were rated highest, but you're right, they are mainly athletes.  Denson in particular i think because of his size and mediocre arm.  Grothe is the highest rated qb, but he is also fast enough to play other postitions running in the high 4.5's.

barring any injuries, it looks like only five of the true freshmen will play this season -- carlton hill, taurus johnson, jessie hester, tyller roberts and mike benzer. they're the only ones who have played this season. nearly all the rest aren't dressing for games. of course, that could change -- last year, chad simpson didn't play until the cincinnati game ...

well dont they have to decide at the beginning of the season if they take a redshirt?  when is the "redshirt deadline" (if you can call it that)?

I don't think there is a deadline.  I think it is just a matter of them not playing but maintaining eligibility.  The redshirt would probably be filed at the end of the season.
