If you had told me we would be in this position at the beginning of the fall term with only baseball left to play, I would have said we'd be a shoe-in but unfortunately I was sucked into the idea that this wouldn't be a rebuilding year because we had a great incoming class of superstars and blah blah blah. But unfortunately we lead by the slimmest of margins over Tulsa (last years winner ) and UConn. Tulsa is irrelevant now because they don't have a baseball team so its just UConn who is 3.5 points back. In a sense USF holds there Cup destiny in there own hands, after Jacksonville, the Bulls play UConn this weekend so if they just win 7 in a row (3 v UConn + 4 in AAC Champ) and that should take care of things. It should be an interesting week in baseball to say the least. Did the team turn a corner taking 2 of 3 from ECU in Pirate land? We shall see. GO Bulls! Let's take Bumgardner, Cueto and Samardza (sp?) out of the Giants rotation and see how they do. Injuries to your weekend starters really do make a difference. If all get healthy the Bulls will be at or near the top of the conference next year.

We are only 1/2 pt back but we need to be able to win one more game than UCONN in the tourney to regain the lead. A team with 30% of its pitching staff injured, it's Johnny Bench award finalist catcher out for the year, and starting 7 freshman needs to do better. Fire Kingston already. With baseball, I think JTrue hit it right on the head. No team in our conference had as many injuries to as many key players.

I'm honestly surprised we were in a position to win this--I suspect our women's sports put us there. Golf & tennis did their parts too. Can't expect baseball to win it for us, though.
