Bulls Headed to Tallahassee for NCAA Regional

AMPA (May 16, 2016)— The USF softball team is headed to the Tallahassee regional for the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bulls will face South Carolina in the opening game of the regional on Friday, May 20, at noon.

The Bulls’ first round opponent will be a familiar face as the Gamecocks and Bulls opened the season against each other in the USF-Wilson DeMarini Tournament in Tampa. South Carolina would come out victorious in that matchup, earning a 7-1 victory. Cassidy Boyle drove in the lone run for USF in that first meeting.

USF is no stranger to a Florida State regional as Ken Eriksen took his 2014 squad to FSU for that year’s tournament. USF would advance to the championship game of the regional after defeating South Carolina twice. This is the Bulls fourth Tallahassee Regional appearance in program history.

No. 8 Florida State is paired with Kentucky for Super Regionals. Should the Bulls advance out of Tallahassee, they will face the winner of the Lexington regional in the next round.

The Bulls advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the last five years. Under head coach Ken Eriksen, the Bulls have made 13 tournament appearances, including two Super Regional appearances and one Women’s College World Series appearance. The Bulls are 23-23 in the NCAA Tournament and 6-6 in Tallahassee.

The NCAA tournament begins May 20 at various campus sites across the nation. The Women’s College World Series takes place June 2-8 in Oklahoma City, Okla. at the Hall of Fame Stadium.

We lose 2-0.

The ladies' bats have gone silent at the worst possible time. Zero runs in the AAC Championship game then today. Hope they find their hitting shoes quickly.

That first base umpire was a joke.  She missed 3 calls during the day - 2 vs USF (1 was really close in slo mo and 1 was horrendous) and 1 vs USC.

They should have stayed home. Error after error, and can't score against decent pitching.

Overall very bad!!

Actually, I disagree with you - and this is not a Green and Gold goggles post. Anyone who has followed this team over the years realized this season wasn't promising coming into it. We played really well for stretches against teams evenly matched up with us. We struggled against teams on paper that over-matched us. I would say Coach E got the most out of the talent that was assembled this season. The SEC is stronger than AAC from top to bottom. The fact that we almost stole the first game from USC is a plus. If you look back to week one of the season, they slaughtered us (and that's being polite). The ladies should be proud of what they accomplished. They overachieved most of the year and lost to teams that were flat out better than them. The AAC was down this season and we were able to capitalize on it with a regular season title. Expecting much else is wishful thinking. Best of luck to the seniors that will start to pursue other ventures in life. Go Bulls!
