Not sure we'd get in even if we beat FSU, but how awesome would a season like that be - if it were an actual issue?

We'd also need Houston to go undefeated or be highly ranked and beat them in our conference game. I put down a $10 bet for USF to winning the national championship - the payout would be $5,000. Our vegas odds are higher than Kentucky, South Carolina and Cal.

  2. Pure speculation on your part not founded by any fact. Unless you can provide a ... link?

This entire thread is speculation. By the way I'm not against an OCS if it makes sense even though it would not benefit me personally. The logic behind my theory though is that many of the season tickets held by businesses are large businesses located in South Tampa/St Pete. South Tampa and St Pete are the locations of a large percentage of large businesses/corporations in the Tampa area. Also I would guess that many of those tickets are club and box seats (still speculation but from my personal experience that is what I have noticed). Would our OCS have enough funds to provide a large club section like RayJay has now? There is a reason many college stadiums are aluminum like UCF's - because they don't fill enough expensive seats year round to afford nice ammenities and USF doesn't have enough booster support to offset that. My guess is that the location shift and amenities that may no longer exist could very possibly affect the decisions of businesses to renew/buy season tickets. But again, like the rest of this thread, this is purely speculation.

  3. As a South Tampa resident with season tickets I would probably go to a game or 2 at an OCS but I wouldn't likely keep my season tickets. Also just to add another argument, there are more businesses in South Tampa, many of which have season tickets, that may not be as likely to keep their tickets if the games were played near USF. Also would an OCS have the ability to sell more expensive tickets such as club/box seats? I have a 1 year old and I wouldn't buy season tickets now if there wasn't an option for club access due to the option for AC. College games can also bring a drunk/rowdy crowd that I wouldn't be comfortable bringing a young child/baby to in the general section.

  4. You guys think you know a good Publix sub but you have no idea. Here's the deal. You get double meat - Italian and Philly Cheesesteak. Keep the Italian meat cold and top it with the cooked Philly meat/mushrooms/onions/green peppers. Boars Head obviously and extra mayo. But you don't stop there. Tell them to butter the bread and toast that **** up on the grill. That is how you do a Publix sub.

I had a huge debate with a coworker of mine (fellow USF grad as well) over the chance that USF will ever be relevant again in CFB:

I think the demise of the USF football program is this:

When USF joined CUSA from D1A indy: 2 steps forward - this was inevitable

When USF joined the BE from CUSA: 500 steps forward - we hit the jackpot (at the time) with this

When USF fired Leavitt and hired Holtz: 500 steps back - Still haunting us

When USF joined the AAC after the BE was dismantled: Another 500 steps back - By this time the BE had been non-stop criticized for being a weak conference that undeservedly rec'd a BCS spot; so to be relegated to a ***** ass CUSA-wannabe hurts more than words can explain

The chance of joining the Big12 is nothing more than a pipe dream. It will never happen.....no matter how hard USF and UCF push collectively.

We will be nothing but an irrelevant Directional School in the minds of your average CFB fans. It sucks, but it is the reality.

    Overblown...

USF football is only 17 years old... year for year, we are much better than most programs in the country. period.

Financially, we are in a much better situation than many other programs

If we start showing success within the next few years, I am not worried. It all comes down to MONEY. If our new athletic admin makes that their focus - we will continue to be relevant.

Granted, I will backtrack on my initial post if the USF athletic admin does start shelling out cash. We all know money talks in CFB. My thing is.....i don't see that happening.

Also, I agree that we are in a MUCH better spot than any university's fb program as old as ours, but we were on the up, and now we have all but crashed.

    As it stands:

    USF:FSU as UL-Monroe:LSU

And, that couldn't have been said when we #2 in the nation. Just sayin.......

Did UL-Monroe have the best non-P5 recruiting class this year? We have a lot of positive factors going for us with our school, market, and athletic program. We just need to start winning. Taggart and Antigua have us on the right track. Stop infecting the board with all this pessimism.

  6. When people tell me USF football sucks I can honestly tell them that we'll be fine and CWT is the only reason that I believe that. In the college football the entire roster is 100% different in a 4-5 year period so as long as we continue to recruit well then winning is just a matter of time. If Taggart can pull off the 39th ranked recruiting class after these disastrous seasons then I have no reason to believe that the good recruiting will stop.

  7. Excerpt from Buccaneers First 100 Days article:

Lovie and MaryAnne wanted to reconnect with Tampa.  They wanted to visit some favorite spots, see what had changed, breathe in the warm air.  They wanted to go to Publix.

“There are a lot of little things,†said Smith.  “Being down here, of course, we shopped in Publix.  There aren't any Publix in Illinois.  Just all of those familiar places that are now a part of your home.  But it was still a journey of getting to know a new place.  It had been a while – 10 years in Chicago.  It had been a while since we'd gone on a new adventure like this.â€

Make a publix thread if you want to talk publix. We censor a lot more relevant material in threads, but can derail threads entirely about sandwiches? C'mon. If there's no discussion for this thread, let it go idle.

    Such as?

Just off the top of my head any discussion regarding Coach O's ability as a recruiter within a thread about a prospect would get moved to an Off Topic thread. I gotta admit I am getting tired of seeing new comments in this thread and end up leaving hungry.

Harlan responded back on twitter saying he felt Maryland and FSU on the road was tough enough already and that we needed to be realistic.

He did however say that there will be news soon

I will say one thing about our new AD, if you ask him a question on twitter, he WILL answer you.

He's a great communicator, especially relative to Woolard.  He Tweets on sports results, key updates and general communication.  Excellent.

That said, no reason Bama should be out of reach. We have put ourselves in position to need to be giant slayers again.

There's plenty of reasons that Bama would be out of reach. Like Harlan said we're already playing FSU and we need to get to a bowl game again.
